Fishing in Skyrim!

Post » Fri Nov 05, 2010 3:34 am

After reading the Game Informer article I am completely content and psyched for Skyrim. But a fishing mini game with the farming and everything etc could be cool.

I hope there aren't too many crafting minigames in Skyrim, I hope it doesn't become like Runescape or LOTRO where you have to carry around gear to fish and stuff

Not a bad idea. But the fishing would have to be rewarding.

Yay!

Finally a sequel to "Pro Angler Moves" and a new replacement for Farmville!

Just what I was hoping the next TES would be!

Fishing would be nice. As long as there is variety in fish. I don't want it to be like Oblivion where there were only slaughterfish.

I really hope there will be at least an optional "survival"-type function that requires eating/drinking/sleeping. This is somewhat implied by the references to cooking and fishing as well as the very detailed cuts of meat in the GI article. It would make fishing and hunting have a lot more significance.

Otherwise, I will wait until the modding community is able to adapt some of the Real Hunger, etc. mods.

EDIT: I misunderstood this thread to be about simply killing aquatic wildlife for the meat. If you are asking about a specific "fishing" skill, it's already been confirmed that the number of skills has been reduced from 21 to 18. I would be surprised if the devs add a mini-game, but someone will probably create a mod for ice-fishing or something similar.

I don't care about this at all, but I wouldn't mind if it's added. Ocorina of Time had a pretty neat fishing minigame, but it was much less serious than an elder scrolls game.

Question though, are you going to be actually catching fish out of the lake? Like if I dive into the lake can I kill the fish with my sword instead? Or will they magically spawn on the end of a hook from an empty lake?

They'd probably just be attracted to your hook a lot easier than reality. I can't see them including realistic fishing, my god that would be boring.

If the player can fish with a pole, they should be able to shoot lightning into a small pond and have all the fish die and float to the top. Blast fishing, mage style.

[simple explanation to stop mages from being way overpowered again] Lightning isn't that strong. It's obviously low charge because it can take forever to kill one person with it. It wouldn't be anywhere near enough to kill a fish in a large body of water where the charge would immediately disperse.[/simple explanation to stop mages from being way overpowered again]

Maybe, we just don't want this to turn into - as JagarTharn above said - Runescape or something. We also don't want a bunch of cheesy minigames, such as fishing - where you lamely try to catch a fish on your hook.
I can see blacksmithing and farming being great ideas, and maybe cooking, but I'm not so sure about fishing.

So, there's mining, were-yeti, and farming, but that's not good enough. No, you want fishing, too.

What game is this? Fisa, or some [censored]? I don't know if fisa is the fishing game, but it's all the same anyway. Why not add underwater basket weaving? Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to sleep twice for the spirits to [censored] off.

Meh.

I find minigames like that to be mostly tiring, I never actually play them. I don't thnk we''ll see fishing though, already enough with the mining and woodcutting.

Well if it's not a feature of the game at launch I'm sure somebody will mod it in. There was a mod for Oblivion which allowed you to fish, and it worked pretty well.
