[REL] Save Cass

Post » Sat Nov 06, 2010 5:16 am

SPOILER WARNING!

Just a little mod I've recently thrown together. Lets you bypass that part of the quest Birds of a Feather where you previously needed to have Cass killed. A speech skill of 30 or higher is required to pull it off.

P.S.: A word of advice - do not bring Cass to the Silver Rush after lying to Jean-Baptiste about her being dead. Unless you're curious about what could happen...

I'll try to be quicker next time. :D I'm such a GECK noob, this mod took me way more time to make than it could have a normal person.

I forgot to add a [REL] tag to the subject. Can a moderator please change it? Edit: Thanks!

Same here. I was forced to blast the [censored] out of the Silver Rush because there was no "Uh, can't we work this out?" option.

What made even less sense was that he wanted her dead after McLafferty had just purchased the company from her. Makes me wonder why she bought the caravan at all.

The way I see it, Jean-Baptiste is a sadist and assuming logical reasons to his cruelty is being hopeful. At one point when the player tells him that the task is being worked on, he replies by stating how he feels uncomfortable with someone out in the wasteland hating him more than he hates her. I tried not to change this in my mod. You still cannot convince him to let Cass alone, the best you can do is lie that you killed her.

Question now is, what happens when you enter the Silver Rush with Cass in tow? Does he go "What the [censored]? You said she was dead!" and then unload on you? Or is he like "'sup?" ;)

Also will this work with games in progress?

Don't worry, I have this covered. As a man of action, Jean-Baptiste will not comment on Cass being alive. Instead, he will let his gun speak for him. Suffice to say, you best leave Cass outside when heading over to the Silver Rush. ;)

Yes it will, although if you already had Cass or the Van Graffs killed then this won't affect your game at all unless you start a new character.

Great idea. I will be trying this out. I suppose the original is supposed to be resolved by refusing the quest outright or knocking off Jean-Baptiste? I haven't gotten there yet, but this is the sneaky option I would probably try.

Yes, that's true. On the Nexus swearing is classified as advlt content. Jean-Baptiste swears a bit in the dialogue I've added so I figured the mod should be marked as advlt content for that reason. However, there is no nudity in it.

Unfortunately in the vanilla game there is no other way to finish the Birds of a Feather quest but to let Jean-Baptiste kill Cass. If you refuse to let him kill her or just kill him outright, the quest is failed. This didn't feel right in a game where you usually have multiple ways to complete each task.

Works great for me!

Got some grammar errors here and there but it's no biggie. :celebration:

Oh please do let me know where you found them, I'd like to have them corrected. English is not my primary language which is no doubt quite apparent from my writing.

I've just uploaded an update for this mod to Nexus. In this new version the quest is much simpler, and all unvoiced dialog lines have been removed. Basically what you do is simply lie to Jean-Baptiste about Cass being dead, no hat involved. If you previously downloaded the mod and would prefer a simpler, more cleaned up version, I advise you to get the new one instead.

Is there anyway you could also make the Terrifying Presence perk option end the quest as well?

Spoiler
Convincing him that you're willing and capable of slaughtering everyone in the building if he touches Cass would seem to put things to rest for me anyway.

I'm not sure, I think that's more of a quest fix than anything else. I wouldn't touch that in case it gets fixed in one of the (un)official patches because then it could lead to incompatibility issues.

The game is rated 18+ anyway, so how is mature content a problem? :P

It depends on where you live. In the US, it's rated M (17+). In Europe, it's 18+.

Just a speech option? I was actually thinking it would be awesome if you could bring him someone else and convince him they were Cass. A more evil way out.
