The Brink Wiki

So is any one else here disappointed by the Brink wiki that's been up since the game was released?

The articles are very sparse and the layout is fugly. There's been a couple of improvements thought it could use a lot more.

With the amount of info we know about the game, we could really turn it into something great, something like these wikis:

http://left4dead.wikia.com/wiki/Left_4_Dead_Wiki
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_Wiki
http://callofduty.wikia.com/wiki/Call_of_Duty_Wiki
http://www.uesp.net/

Even those games had nice, detailed articles already written weeks before the game they were about was released.

And again, that layout, that color... somebody needs to fix that.

Only wiki I haven't marked as an ''eyesore'' is the Gears of War wiki, the colours are not that bright, but I can make out everything perfectly, but a BRINK wiki shouldn't be black, orange, and red, eh? :P

I've been working at it as much as I can when I have the time through out my day. Granted I'm no wiki pro, but part of the problem is the lack of confirmed info for the game. Mainly I've just been adding pages to categories, and trying to put placer-holder images in until we get more info.

As far as the look, it was designed to match the color of the box art as far as I can tell. Not that that has to be the case; I suppose it could be changed. But keep in mind you can also change your own skin in the preferences menu.

I was pretty big on the Borderlands wiki for a while, but it was easier because the game had already been released when I started there. The main Admin of the BL wiki is also on the Brink one; I'm sure once things start to pick-up, he'll step in to help get more stuff done. Watchgrassgrow is also on there and has had several constructive edits.

I think it's just going to take time, and when the game finally releases we'll have a lot more to build off of and add. But yeah, any help would be extremely welcome. The more the merrier. A lot of you guys here know more of Horse's compendium off the top of your heads. If you're new to wiki editing, don't be afraid to ask me and I'll help you in any way I can.

Yeah, when the game is out, the BRINK wiki will probably be loaded with confirmed stuff

Yeah, so far for me the look of it is the biggest problem. The color is fine, I just don't think it should ALL be that color.

Maybe you could get someone to design a template, make it more appealing. A lot of wikis seem to use a combination of white, black, and another color, which in this case could be that blue.

Well, you could always mimic what this forum is using?

The Bug Wallpaper = Background

Font and colour of the texts: This colour and text

Pictures: Eh, just slap them in

Squares that will contain all the information = Either this reply-bar, or the transparent background behind the posts?

Well, if you have an account there, you could bring it up to Matt of the Wastes. Not necessarily for his permission, but he is the main Bureaucrat there, and is pretty good with markup. He'd at least know how to go about doing it. Most wikis templates are designed by wiki employees (for free, mind you) upon request. Whoever made it probably just look at the box art and picked the colors around that. But remember, you can always change your own skin for now if it bothers you that much.

Sounds do-able, but I wouldn't know how. I'm better with text, language protocol, and links and such. Just keep in mind we don't want to do it haphazardly, and it would be better to collaborate with a few active members so we're all on the same page.

This forum is not an eyesore, so if this the wiki could use something similiar to this, then [censored] yes, score all the way

I agree with you, but it's still a matter of individual taste. I don't see you having much of an issue with anyone else in changing it, because several editors have already mentioned it, but acting unilaterally often causes unnecessary BS on wikis. If you already know how to do it, go ahead and make up a template and preview it. Nothing's ever final, things can always be fixed or undone or redone, etc etc etc.

Either do I, but if you're really gung-ho about it, there's a wealth of mark-up help info if you Google or wiki it. Or you can just talk to Matt, like I was saying, because he knows how to do it. Maybe invite or link him to this forum so he can get a sense of what you're suggesting.

Oh, and if I failed to mention it, my wiki tag is ConceitedJarrad, same as my XBL tag.

It's already been said, but's it's hard for the Wiki to have any amount of information when most of the "information" that's out there on sites right now is guess work. Once the game comes out it'll have a lot more information because the information will be available to all of us.
Personally though, I like the background and such for the wiki, the only problem is the editing page. The font colour or the background colour needs to change, because it's hard to read black on black =/

Yeah, unfortunately editing is not very possible because the background for the wiki is the same one used for editing, for some pointless reason.

Switching over to source mode by clicking the button in the upper right hand corner of the editing box will provide a white background with standard black text. I have brought this issue up to the management there, as I feel people who don't know how to switch over to source might be turned off by it.

Yeah that's usually what I end up doing, but we shouldn't really have to do that.
Oh and speaking of the Wiki, none of the Blogs seem to be updating for me. I keep seeing that people post in that one you made about marketing or whatever, but every time I go to it there's nothing new. Anyone else having that problem?

Still looking for volunteers to help confirm info and generally get things organized. I can help anyone with basic editing standards and techniques. Just remember, if you don't help make it good, you'll have no excuse to complain later.

Here's the link if anyone's interested: http://brink.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

Questions comments, and constructive criticism are welcome both on the wiki and in this thread, and will be much appreciated.

Edit: Fixed broken link in this post
