Fallout 1 colors screwy?

Post » Wed Nov 10, 2010 1:07 pm

Okay, so I just purchased Fallout 1 from Steam, and once it downloaded, I started it up. As soon as an image was available, I noticed that little pixels in all of the images, are full of random rainbow colors. I'll get a screenshot and post it in case you guys don't know what I'm getting at, but if you have a clue about my problem, or how to fix it, any and all help will be extremely appreciated.

EDIT: For some reason when I try to take a screenshot, the entire image is black, except for the rainbow pixels.

you download and install the FO1 hi-res patch yet, by chance? If not, try that. Here's the linkage to it on NMA:

I've answered this in another thread, so I just copied what I wrote there:

Hey there, I had a similar problem (probably the exact same one--it happened right after I installed W7) so give this a try as it is what I did and it all works perfectly fine for me now:

You'll probably want to download and install this Hi-Res patch (don't worry, it's totally intuitive and very easy to use. Just read the instructions!) install that first, then go into the exe file for the actual game, and choose properties/compatibility and click "change settings for all users" then "run this program as administrator." if you do it any other way the game will not load and will give you an error message about running in compatibility mode.

If all else fails, I've always found that alt-tabbing back to windows and then going back into the game will serve to refresh the graphics. Sometimes you might have to do it more than once before it works, but it's always worked pretty well for me.

Same here. Exiting the game and going back into it helps. Don't know how or why, it just seems to do it.
