Well hello there.

I'm one of those people who has only ever played Fallout 3....and I'm a tad confused. The vault that it shows in the introduction movie, the one where the Enclave just opens fire and kills EVERYONE. Is that Vault 13?

I mean I'd kind of understand why they killed everyone in it if it was (I'm guessing the Enclave was in FO1), but if its not 13, then why the hell did the Enclave just start shooting?

Yes, that was Vault 13.

Enclave came to about Fallout 2 (they were not in Fallout 1). Reason as to why they went gun happy is really a plot point in Fallout 2. Spoiler ensures:

The Enclave needed pure human strait to test out their recent experiment involving masses impure human extermination. When the people of Vault 13 got out of Vault at their designated time, the Enclave was waiting for them to open the Vault Door (they can monitor every Vaults they wishes) and the Enclave shoot the people in the entrance. This would case great fear for the rest of the Vault Dwellers and have no choice but to follow the Enclave or get kill. The Enclave did not kill everyone. Just a handful enough to make the Vault Dwellers know that the Enclave is in charge.

Revenge was taken for those poor souls.
