What music do you have playing whilst playing Oblivion?

Post » Sat Nov 13, 2010 8:55 am

I am randomly wonderign what do my fellow forum goers listen to while playing oblivion, if you even have any music playing?
Myself, I used to replace the music with quite a variety, Pokemon, FFVII, Lunar 2, and other RPGs, but this install I have been too lazy to replace the music files.

I listen to the Oblivion game music. I like it very much. I do turn it to a fairly low volume and turn up the ambiant sounds. That way, the music provides a neat mood background, but I still hear every footstep/bird chirp etc. :)

I have the default musics and a music pack I downloaded so long ago I don't even remember what it's called (but it fits in with the Vanillas so well, I can hardly even tell what's original and what's not), with one small add-on... My brother felt the need to prank me by adding the Indiana Jones theme to my dungeon diving musics. So, now I have Indiana Jones. It really lightens the mood when you're panicking about fighting hordes of enemies in a crowded, dark hallway with traps and suddenly the Indiana Jones theme starts playing... :P I don't have to heart to get rid of it, because my brother thinks it's so hilarious whenever he watches me play and it comes on. He's very proud of himself. I had no idea he even knew where the Oblivion folder was on my computer, let alone how to put music in it.

If I get annoyed with the defaults I'll just turn off the sound on my desktop computer (which has Oblivion on it) and play something from my laptop's iTunes.

I'm very picky about the music I choose for Oblivion; It has to fit both the original music and the feel of the game. To that end, I use all the tracks from http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11436, and several tracks from http://www.tesnexus.com/modules/members/index.php?id=120785 (link goes to his TES Nexus profile) various music packs.

Well, since I accidentally deleted all of my Oblivion music folders except Public (don't ask, it's a loooong story) I listen to the birds cherping and the bandits shouting while out in the wilderness, and Requiem for a Dream while I'm in cities.

Nice. :foodndrink:
I use the Oblivion music loud and proud when I'm outside or in cities, or safe. I turn off all music when I'm underground, and at sunrise. <<-- priceless.

I am the same as Acadian, the vanilla music turned down low enough that I can still hear ambient sounds like footsteps.

A combination of vanilla music supplemented by the aforementioned Oblivion Symphonic Variations and a collection of Medieval pieces. My standard practice with computerized RPGs has been to disable music, finding it immersion breaking. But for some reason I rather enjoy the Oblivion music. For me it complements game-play rather than distracts from it.

(I too keep game-music at a soft level so that environmental sound predominates.)

My earliest and longest held passion is (or was when my hearing was better) so-called classical music. But I can't envision utilizing it within the game. It is so emotionally overpowering that I could never concentrate on the tasks at hand.

The game music. I like it enough so that I don't bother changing it.

I either play on an Xbox or Ps3 so I usually just leave the default music on. Every now and then I'll turn the game music off and put a cd on, but not very often.

I usually do default especially if I'm sneaking but if I'm going on a dungeon fest I may put on some other music.

I took some N64 Zelda music for outside, in towns and in dungeons. Haven't got around to changing the combat music though.

In addition to the vanilla music, I try to keep a good variety going that still fits in with the general "feel" of Oblivion. This usually results in an eclectic mix that still blends in pretty well with the background. As an example, here's a (small; the full list is easily twice this) part of my Explore folder:

Spoiler
Bear McCreary - Apocalypse (Theme from _The Plan_.mMazzy - Into Dust.mp3Kitka - Tee Peleite Zernju Zogtu Latvi.mp3Calexico - Black Heart.mp3Hedningarna - Gorrlaus (The Steed).mp3Uru Soundtrack - Gallery Theme.mp3Devotchka - How It Ends.mp3The Chieftains - The Morning Dew.mp3Sufjan Stevens - We Won't Need Legs To Stand.mp3Loreena McKennitt - La Serenissima.mp3Azam Ali - Sackpipslat.mp3Gjallarhorn - Bergfast (Mountain Haunted).mp3Alone in the Dark Sdtrk. - Crying New York.mp3E.S. Posthumus - Estremoz.mp3Vienna Teng - Soon Love Soon.mp3Bear McCreary - Blood On The Scales.mp3Blood And Gold _ Mohacs.mp3Silent Hill 2 - Promise Reprise.mp3Metal Gear Solid - The Best Is Yet To Come.mp3

...Having really random tastes in music and a large collection of Scandinavian and Celtic tunes helps, too. :D

Anyone trying Basil Poledouris' excellent Conan soundtrack? Such as Riders of Doom, the Anvil of Cromm...?

Most of the time, I mute the music. I quite like the ambient sounds.

That being said, if the mood takes me, I listen to anything from Wintersun and Ensiferum to Twilightning and Mystic Prophecy. Basically if it's cheesy and/or epic and metal, i'll stick it on.

I never really change the music from the folder. I quite enjoy the vanilla music. Every once in a while though I will turn off the music and listen to a bluegrassy, old-time band called "Crooked Still". For some reason they really gets me in the mood for TES. It's the same for Morrowind. I usually listen to them while browsing these forums or tesnexus too.
