Socketed items!

will we have socket-ed items in Skyrim? a in swords and armor (like helmets) that have empty spaces for gems in them, maybe even rune stones (like diablo2)

it would be a nice add-on that won't ruin the game or anything like that :P

I highly doubt it, but I would really like to see it. It spices the game... But oh well, we already have enchanting.

I heard something about us being able to make our own weapons, though if it's true and how deep it will be, if it turns out to be true, I don't know.

Sigil Stones! They work exactly like socket gems, though you can't get rid of the enchanting after it's done...

But you can't mix and match different gems and make extremely powerful and good combinations.

Revelation! Instead of enchanting weapons, you could just insert a soul gem into the socket of the weapon/armour piece and it will get a magical effect. You could then remove the soul gem and insert a new one, of you'd want to. :D

DO WANT !
But not as a Diablo ripoff,I'd like to say Bethesda can pull it off but that was the First Era,when Tiber Septim was the developer...

Personally, I prefer enchanting, it allows further customization.

What if you would get the same options as with enchanting? As in the soul gems not having a certain ability (like Sigil Stones), but using your magic skills to convert the energy of the soul gem into a usable ability for your weapon, with the energy still being "trapped" inside the soul gem.

yes enchanting PLUS sockets :)
Of course only weapons, helmets, gauntlets, gloves, weapons, and shields can have sockets.

lets see:

rubies: adds some extra damage to weapons and a small chance of triggering a vampiric effect upon hit
adds Hp points to armor and some fire resistance.

and stuff like that :P

Wouldn't that basically just be double enchanted? The only way to create permanent spell effects on Tamriel is to use souls (as far as we know) and the practice of enchanting is using the power of the captured soul to imbue the item with magical properties. Socketing would be just putting the soul gem itself on the item after you enchanted it. I say meh.

Sockets could be things to enhance the item's own variables like damage,speed,durability,weight,accuracy...More of a tech thing.Enchanting could be as it was.

Why bother with this socket nonsense? Just grab a soul gem and put whatever enchantment you are able to put on it out of your spell repertoire.

And how would sockets affect damage, speed, etc? It's a sword. It doesn't have picatinny rails, it doesn't have receiver parts you can swap out. It's a yard of steel with a sharp edge or two.

Omfg nice idea! And then we should have inscription where scribes make spells stronger and then we should have like a way to do Archeology and we should ride dragons and there should be gnomes and blood elfs and green orcs who have a shamanistic past! And then we should have giants in space and a main evil giant called Sargeras and chocobo mounts we can call Hawkstriders, and un-enchanted items should give stats and some should be purple and there could be a orange frostmourn sword and furbolgs, cos that would be totally cool man!

Granted... my Nord warrior probably doesn′t like pink gems in his mace, but I guess he can have some so that he can play the way the game was balanced around being played as.
