Commentaries on the Mysterium Xarxes

Post » Tue Nov 16, 2010 8:36 am

Has anyone every deciphered what half of the text in Mankar Camoran's Commentaries actually means? For example, take this paragraph from Book One:

My own summons came through a book Lord Dagon wrote himself in the deserts of rust and wounds. Its name is the 'Mysterium Xarxes', Aldmeretada aggregate, forefather to the wife of all enigma. Each word is razor-fed and secret, thinner than cataclysms, tarnished like red-drink. That I mention it at all is testament to your new rank, my child. Your name is now cut into its weight.

....what? :bolt:

Anybody knows what that even means? All I understood was that the Mysterium Xarxes was written in a rusty desert and "red-drink" = blood. Sometimes I wonder if the ManKar was just using a random paragraph generator for the commentaries.....

My own summons came through a book Lord Dagon wrote himself in the deserts of rust and wounds.

Mankars calling to the cause of Dagon came through a book Dagon wrote in a philosophical mood during his sabbatical on a tropical island in Oblivion.

Its name is the 'Mysterium Xarxes', Aldmeretada aggregate, forefather to the wife of all enigma.

The books is named 'Mysterium Xarxes', after a collection of original Aldmer spirits named Xarxes. He is an Aldmer god of history and accomplishment. Xarxes made Oghma out of his favorite moments in history.

The wife of all Enigma is the Oghma Infinitum (Infinite History) made by Hermaus Mora. The Census of Daedra lords tells that Hermaus Mora was made of discarded ideas in the creation of Mundus, I'd imagine a few bits of Xarxes ended up in there to make the Oghma Infinitum.

As such the Mysterium Xarxes means as much as the mystery of the past.

Each word is razor-fed and secret, thinner than cataclysms, tarnished like red-drink.

Just setting the mood about the sort of controversial, corrupting and deadly writing in the book.

That I mention it at all is testament to your new rank, my child. Your name is now cut into its weight.

Because you are new he is tediously explaining you this. By understanding this, you are judged worthy.

Clearly you failed. :P

Agreed. Minus the Xarxes bit, I pretty much knew what he was talking about as much as you did. Of course, i was also unaware of Xarxes... must read up on my Aldmeri myths, I suppose.

It makes my brain hurt! When I saw him in paradise, I couldn't take anymore! He hadn't blabbed on about 2 things before he had an arrow shot into his face guided by my sheer will to stop what I like to call "The Voices".

The fun is in deciphering and learning. I can tell you what says and explain where most of it comes from, but you have to ask the questions to appreciate the answers. In part it is an exercise in imagination, in part a scavenger hunt through lore.

If you get stuck on a word or a concept, put it in a dictionary, search the Lore Forum or the Imperial Library and you're bound to dredge up something. It's not very hard once you get past the language.

So give it a shot.

Also, i'ts a bit more fun to actually find the meanings YOURSELF rather than reading someone elses and just going off of something that someone else has interpreted.

Once you get the hang of it, it becomes much more fun to do.
