Oblivion's random crashing

Post » Fri Nov 19, 2010 12:00 am

I haven't played Oblivion in ages (except for Nehrim, but it's different) so I desided to try it again. I realised that I hadn't actually re-installed it on my new computer after I took it off about half a year ago. I installed it all fine, except the disk was dirty and I had to clean it, but after that it was all good. I then installed Shivering Isles with no problem. I then got some things to make it look better and fix bugs, which are:
Unoffical Oblivion Patch
Unoffical Shivering Isles Patch
Qarl's Texture Pack III
Natural Interiors
WEPON base install
Natural Environments
Landscape_LOD
Seasonal Weather

And then I booted it up. I didn't know if they were going to conflict, but as (except for the 2 bug fixers) they were all visual, I thought that it would be a visual glitch if they did. I started a new character, and all was going well, untill at the end of the tutorial where the emperor was getting stabbed, and it minimized. I opened the window again, and I could rotate my character, and nothing else.

I have 4gb of RAM, a 4-core 3GHz processor (AMD Phenom II X4 955) and a GTS 250.

If you need anything other info, please tell me.

Thanks for reading this !

EDIT: Somehow posted before I was meant to.

I'm trying to re-install now.

EDIT: Did nothing, still does it. Anyone know why ?

I have Windows 7 64-bit, would that change anything ?

Have you installed Oblivion outside of C:Program Files yet? I use C:games to avoid UAC issues.
Your C Drive should look like this,.

Games<----Oblivion should be inside this folder.
Perf Logs
Program Files<----- Games that can be modded do not belong in this folder if you have Windows Vista or 7.
Users
Windows

I did it this way because I have seen Oblivion installed in Users as an attempt to avoid UAC before.
EDIT Use BOSS to sort your load Order, the current version is 1.65. Read the BOSSlog after you run BOSS-the log can point out a missing patch and an outdated mod files.

What else is running in the background that might want the screen, and cause Oblivion to minimize?

Thanks for the replies. I think it's RAlink that's trying to steal the focus, but it's not an oblivion problem. I realised it was a whole computer problem (not a UAC problem either, it's turned off. I hate it !)
