Possible Daggerfall Error.. Bleh.

Post » Thu Nov 18, 2010 11:33 am

After struggling with Daggerfall for nigh on two days to get it all kinked out, I have another not install related issue. The game's been working fine for now, Privateer's Hold went fine, got my first Fighter's Guild quest done (It was a bear... In the Fighter's Guild. Good times, Daggerfall), and then proceeded to a Knightly Order. My first quest was to kill some orcs, of course. I go in the Keep, and of course rest occasionally. Unfortuneatly, whenever I rest now, the phrase 'You feel bad', comes up and I instantly die. It's quite annoying... Is this a game feature or a glitch?

Have you checked your afflictions? You might have gotten diseased or something. If not, it might be one of the infamous game breaking glitches.

Sounds like you have a disease. Get yourself healed.

Aye. The game says 'You are Healthy', that and I assumed it was a bug when my health meter appeared above my fatigue after dying. Meh. I'm not that far in. Might as well start over and see where it takes me this time.

I'd suggest always having a save before you enter a dungeon - whether its right before you take the quest or at the dungeon entrance - that way if something goes horribly wrong you only lose the time you spent in there.

You could try to exit the dungeon and head to the nearest temple and see if you can get healed (assuming its really a disease that its just not reporting correctly).

You been fighting assassins? It sounds to me like you've been poisoned. If you've got any healing ability, just stay awake for a while and keep yourself alive until the poison passes. If not, reload a previous save. If you don't have one of those... well, there are easy ways and hard ways to learn lessons. In Daggerfall, you must ALWAYS have a previous save. This game does not go out of its way to keep you alive. And then there's the bugs. I kind of like it, actually.

I generally keep three save slots for a character. One save comes right before I accept a quest, in case the quest glitches into an unsolvable state. The second is right before I enter a dungeon, in case something like what you're describing happens. The third is the saves I do as I'm playing.

Aye, I like it too. I don't feel frusturated at the game, more like 'Damn, this game's not holding my hand. Sweeet.'

Ah, it was a disease then. Must've picked it up in Privateer's. Bleh. Regardless, this situation did teach me the importance of saving. So, not all's bad.

Actually, I think it's not a disease; it's poison. Some diseases will kill you quickly if you fast travel too far. Some work slower, and you have more time to travel. But no disease will kill you over the course of a rest before it so much as shows up in your status report.

Poison is another matter. Poison hurts you over a much shorter period of time, and there is no indication that it has occurred other than a quick "you have been poisoned" message that can be easily missed as you fight (IIRC)... that, and the periodic red flash followed by a sudden drop in hit points. Diseases erode your stats. Poisons act directly on your hit points, and can damage you faster than you can heal during a rest.
