New graphics card, large patches missing

Hello all, I purchased Oblivion when it first dropped back in the day, loved the game but few computers could play it. It also had many bugs so time went buy and I picked up the goty edition. Back then I could play it but barely on my Nvidia 7900GT. So it's years later and i got all new parts for the comp, and picked up a Radeon 5700 HD nice card! I thought, hey this should kill oblivion and the game has to look awsome now this is a new card. So I installed the goty edition and started to play, however when I popped out of the sewers at the start I couldnt even see across the lake, I remembered there were mountains there. So I turned up the distance and they appeared but UHHH ugly. Also the sewer to the lake is one giant mat green block of graphic? So i continue to find that when i walk to places aka a nearby town the lower part of the town is covered in this green field that appear at my characters head level. It's like I was sinking in a green square, if I zoomed all the way in i could see under the square and normal buildings etc, but then moving around I would get stuck in this square again. Also a knight on a horse on the road was in mid air sideways. Somethings very not right, I have the newest drivers for this brand new card and wondering what can be done to fix this? is there a set of in game settings which I should turn on or off or a patch or what do you all think? Seems odd I have a HUGE boost in graphics from years later and its running worse. Has to be something small not set right, but I can't figure it out. Any help or suggestions?

Actually thats not odd at all. Unless backwards comparability is explicitly stated, it shouldn't be a surprise to see problems with old software running on modern tech. Im not saying its common, but definitely not odd.

Check your graphics settings.... chances are good the game recognized your card as one of the OLD Nvidia FX series cards..... and set everything to uber-low.

+1 -- the 57xx series cards are detected by the autodetect as old Nvidia FX57xx cards (since those were the only 57xx series when the game launched ! -- and they had shader problems that Beth released the Ultra low settings to make useable in game with the initial patch --- so you'll need to use the presets to select Ultra-High instead of Ultra-low and it will reactivate the shaders and the game will then work properly. My 5770 does the same everytime I update my video drivers which makes the game autodetect run -- If you do not have the presets on your launcher PM me and I'll send you a copy of the one with the presets which makes it an easy fix (just press 1 button on the launch screen whenever the autodetect runs)

Thank you so much I just reinstalled my game 2-3 times trying to figure out why the hell all of the sudden the game wasn't working like that, kinda pissed though because all my mods are now reset.
