Win 7 blues

Hi all

I have a new system with Win 7 freshly installed on it but can't get oblivion to run.
My motherboard is a Gigabyte H55M-D2H
My video card is an NVidia GeForce GT 240
& I have 4 gigs of ram
and all drivers are up to date and the game is patched.

What happens is the PC freezes up with a black box in the upper left and all the programs start cycling through as though alt-tab is being hit in rapid succession. Then it pooches monitor #2 and I have to set that back up in the NVidia dualscreen thing.

I don't get a launch screen so I can't activate my mods, it bypasses it on both oblivion.exe and oblivion launcher.exe

The furthest I've gotten in playing is part way through face gen

I can't quit out without using the task manager and that is a battle and a half.

Oh my version of Oblivion is the old CD from the CE and the seperate KotN and SI discs if that matters- maybe it's the CD drive somehow? I wouldn't know how to troubleshoot or tell. Oblivion is the only program I have installed that requires a disc in to play it.

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

First, uninstall the game, then, reinstall someplace OTHER THEN Program Files. C:\Games\Oblivion would be fine. Install the base game, both expansions, and you will also need the 1.2.0416 patch for SI, and your region. Official patch is available on beths website somewhere......

Then, once you have the game installed, navigate to the install folder, find the Oblivion.exe, right click on it, and select "Properties", or "Personalize" (whichever one you have....) Run it in XP compatibility mode, disable visual themes.

Try the game again.
