The more I play Fallout 2 ....

I think Fallout 2 is a great game and I disagree that it is out of genre. That being said, I felt that New Reno was way overdone and was definately pushing it. Other than that, I thought the majority of the game fit the post-apocalyptic genre just fine.

Just started playing Fallout 2 again and man, it's awesome. I don't play games to roleplay characters, and I feel Fallout 2 gives me plenty of laughs with the dialog, things to do (Slavers guild, boxing) and tons of reasons to replay it.

I also love the maturity of the game, and that's what I felt Fallout 3 was missing.

If you don't like Fallout 2, your loss, people (myself included) love it.

I share a love/hate relationship with Fallout 2. I liked the gameplay, heck I even liked the New Reno side quests and interactions because they were really well done. However New Reno, and many parts of Fallout 2 for that matter did not really seem to fit in the Fallout setting.

I want an RPG. Not a wasteland safari and tourism.

That's exacly how I feel even with mods, FO3 became so boring at a certain point it felt like wasteland tourism. Dang! Only forgot to bring my camera. :)

Not replayable at all like the first series! Putting it back in the bookshelf where it belongs. Oh well it's bin fun ...

Fallout 2 is still one of the best games I've played. Sure, it felt a bit disjointed and lacked in writing compared to Fallout 1 and offered a bit too much silly jokes, but all the other improvements, kinda, made it up. And I have to say that I'm biased since I played 2 before 1. So, to me, it's a close call in favor of Fallout 2 when ranking the games. After those, there's a long way until the rest of the series and spinoffs comes when speaking of quality RPGs.

I started FO2 again, installed the FO restoration kit/patch from that killa bear dude and it...
rocks my socks!

I'm in the Den playing a more or less hardcoe neutral mercenary slapping those kids around for stealing from my stuff, not killing them! A few bare fist hits do the trick. Killed Flick/Tubby in the process coz I messed up a speech test and they are the source of these stealing orphins anyway (reminds me of Oliver Twist btw). Quite funny seeing those children fleeing when my character approaches. I'm not welcomed with open arms, but they still like me in the Den from a karmatic point of view because it's an anarchistic place.

True, about those silly jokes sometimes. I started out back in the day with FO1 and it's less silly indeed although I played FO2 more than FO1. It still rocks this blast from the past!

*edit* in the end I helped to build a orphanage coz I thought it was kinda cruel. Pfiew! No more stealing brads around. :)

I just pretended that Arroyo, New Reno, Myron, Skynet, and the description of the .44 magnum didn't exist, but this was about as efective as hiding a dead body under the bathroom rug, and they still bothered me. However, each game in the main series has it's own little set of tiny flaws, and in the end I think that they are each equal to one another.

One other thing: there were bits of dialogue if you snuck up on Super Mutants talking to one another in Fallout 3 that vaguely suggested that they dipped humans in vats.

Fallout 2, one of the genre of Fallouts, each having in their own ways slight differences that thankfully are not out of kilter with each other... a fine addition to the series (without it Fallout 3 wouldn't exist).

It was the game that dragged me into the Fallouts. When you immerse yourself into any one of the Fallouts, you will find yourself not anolysing the bejeepers out of the game, but just enjoying every aspect and quality of each one. Each one of the Fallouts have the freedom and flexibility that allow you to make of each game what you will. It will say much of the player what they make of the game.

Didn't make much of it, or unable to immerse in it ?
Surely not ! ... Let me anolyse that ....... .... ....

Fallout2 is the best Fallout for people around my age. I think things that are absurd made the Fallout concept complete. It was not just about serious post apocalyptic world anymore. It was about having fun, and being reminded that we were playing a game. If they made today's games like how Fallout2 was, disturbed children wouldn't be killing other children in schools in USA.

I thought Fallout 2 was a great sequel and I didn't mind the pop culture references and jokes breaking the fourth wall for the most part, i actually enjoyed it, it seemed like an essential part of Fallout to me. That and the crazier ideas in there may have only been very slightly too much at times...but only very slightly.

Wait, what does that have to do with anything? You're implying that kids that are a little disturbed are killing others in schools because games today are not like Fallout 2? What kind of strange assumption is that? Moreover, how could any gamer in the world blame any kind of videogame for the violence that we hear about in the news? Like those kids wouldn't get triggered by a tv show, reading a book that svcks or their pet iguana dying.

Hrm, I'll weigh in here.

What can I say? I love Fallout 3. It has its issues surely, no whitewashing from me.

However, I have played all of the Fallout games and now I am just spoiled rotten. No matter how many times I reinstall them, I cannot play them. The old style graphics hurt my eyes. Hence why I cannot play the original Bard's Tale anymore or any of my collection of Ultima games. Fallout 1 and 2 were great cRPGs for their time. Fallout: BOS..... What a waste of money. I love cRPGs and I love FPS games. Now, I have yet to find a game that combines both as well as Fallout 3 did. Sure, it wasn't the best it could be but I believe it did a decent job.

Gameplay

1)Fallout 3
2)Fallout 1
3)Fallout 2
4)Fallout Tactics
5)Fallout: aBortiOnS

I'm not going to get into canon here because he who owns the intellectual property owns the canon. We have all seen 'reboots' of canon in other genres, so why not here?
