Interplay is still Fallout's publisher so it's up to them, not Bethesda.

I think that I read the words right enough, but the meaning I got was slightly askew of what you intended. :P
Fallout was close enough to free over the last few days... It was on sale for under 3$

TBH, with services like Good Old Games and Steam, I really cant see any publisher taking their back catalogue down the free route anymore.

I think that's true for games that can be easily made to run on modern OSs but not necessarily games that require some finagling. The big advantage to releasing a game for free is that you don't have to provide much technical support.

The Fallouts are pretty much fine on modern OSs so services like GOG work well for them. I also imagine at this point any source of revenue is appreciated by Interplay.

Interplay is spending lot of investment for their MMO, and im sure they need some ways to keep the cash coming into their pocket until MMO is finished.

That's not completely true since Windows 7. You need to download the High Resolution mod and set both Fallout and Fallout 2 to 16-bit colors unless you want to play them in psychedelic mode. Still, it IS easier to do that than it is to get Arena and Daggerfall working smoothly in DOSBox.

Since Vista that is. Win7 is almost the same as Vista.

Whatever... It happens to a lot of old games that utilizes the old graphic systems like 256/16bit colours, 640*480 resolution, etc.

I tried to install http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Neverhood for example and I had the same problem. I fixed it with a patch fortunately.

Somehow Vista and Win7 are running on a different kind of graphic engine or maybe it is DirectX related... I dunno...

No, the rainbow colors are a Windows 7 thing. I had no issues with color in Vista.

Well I had this funky color problem on Vista with Worms Armageddon, Fallout, Starcraft and Diablo to name a few.

Whatever... It doesn't matter really.
