Anybody ever beaten DF as a preset Mage?

Topic pretty much says it all, I was just wondering if anybody here has done this before. I think I would like to give it a go but gettings 4 to 8 HP per level seems like it would make the game quite a challenge, if not impossible. Only having 2x in spellpoints seems a slight drawback as well, but maybe the class just really shines at higher levels.

I've rarely played the game as a mage. Buying a spell or making one was too much for me to handle! :P

But I'm sure it pays off in the long run. Especially when you have access to spells like "Banish Daedra/Undead" or other similar ones.

I've only actually "beaten" the game once. But back in the day, I got fairly far with a standard mage, though it wasn't very exciting. Mostly I'd hit things with a stick and push them around with area-around-caster damage spells. If there was something too difficult to kill, I'd just voidwalk past it.

Hmm... I'm getting an urge to play as a standard mage...

All my attempts to play a primarily magic-using character end in frustration. The offensive spells just svck. Perhaps mages get more dungeon-feasible at higher level and more efficient spell costs, but I've yet to be able to put up with a some pointy-hatted wuss long enough to find out.

Well......it's really boring, but we all know Mages are easy enough to level with cheap spells made from the spellmaker for each school and many nights resting in an inn :) . I'll likely do that and then see if the offensive spells are any better in terms of effectiveness when destruction is at 80+.

Yeah, it's really hard... if you play it straight. If you take advantage of the fact that you can absorb every single area effect spell you cast, it's really really easy. I'd say doing that is the only thing that can make Daggerfall too easy.

Well, that, and min-maxing a custom build, particularly when choosing both "Critical Weakness to Paralysis" and playing a High Elf (which negates that weakness).

With Daggerfall newly released as a free download (I really wasn't expecting that), I'm gonna have to go ahead and take that challenge. Hopefully, there'll be more people in this forum. And yes, I WILL be posting in the "What did you do today?" thread. :D
