This is how I feel about it.
Well, I guess if you play more than 1 video game then you might have an idea to compare the good points and bad points from the two.
If you do that then you might start to wonder about why one game has strong play control while the other game has strong visuals or a great story.
If you take that just a tad further then you might start thinking...
"How can I see game "A" which I love but has lousy animations and play control, to play and feel like game "B" which doesn't have nearly as good a story as game "A" but whose character moves around the game world in a much more believable fashion."
That is the gist of this thread and why people speak about game engines.
And, it has been stated more than once.
Also, some people feel that the game engine has little to do with the feel of the game, that talented developers can make anything out of any tool out there (but I'm not so sure.)
My experience tells me that better tools make better products, especially with talented craftsmen.
Either way,
thanks for the post. I understand that some people couldn't care less about the innards of a video game and just want to play it.
I can dig it.
- As far as the far cry 2 engine... wow, I thought that game looked absolutely terrible, horrid (although I didn't pick it up until 2009).
Was Far Cry developed by Crytek?
I think that the gamebryo engine made a better looking game than the cryengine (far cry 2).
