Dragons instead of fast-travel?

Nah I like Oblivions fast travel system minus all the cities being unlocked at the beginning. Its still an interesting idea but what dragon would be friendly.

As soon as we have dragons as a transporation system, then we'll want to fight on them. As soon as we want to fight on them, we want to be able to control them and breath fire down on our enemies. And as soon as that happens, there is little point besides tricking out your dragon. So I'd have to say no to dragon fast travel or dragon mounts in general. They're the bad guys, and even if a few of them don't want to kill us all I highly dought they'd be willing to play taxi for the only guy who can kill them.

I keep seeing this:

"I don't like fast travel."

"Don't use it then!"

The issue is: the ones not liking it don't have any alternative. It's either walk for hours or insta-zap to somewhere, both of which are not exactly what they want.

As for the poll... no idea what to say. On one hand they're your sworn enemies on the other it's similar to what MW used.

Riding dragons? Why stop there? Why not ride a giant shark on top of a dragon! Yeah, those bandits will think twice when they see me show up . . .

YES! And then we could jump over Fonzie and...wait, that's not right... <_<

No. I'd rather have a fast travel system that automatically applies services depending on options (speed, cost, risk etc etc) you set in the fast travel dialog. You pay in money or time to fast travel safe, or you manually use services (like in MW) to travel safe, but no more exploitable teleportation at no cost. What you do is up to player, but as we all know, "there is no such thing as a free ride" ;) So why the hell should the be one in the game? You might not be able to afford it sometimes, but that is still the result of player mismanagement. Do the mistakes, pay the prize. Isn't this roleplaying after all? Why this is unacceptable for the fast travel fans who can't say more than "if you don't like it, don't use it", I will truly never understand. Never have I played a game with such a silly system. How would GTA San Andreas be if we could just click on the map where we wanted to instantly be?

Remove the "free feel" of it, and provide decent alternatives, and I won't complain.

Seriously OP?

here's a funny little lore tidibit: The only TES character to ride a Dragon did so by stabbing it between the scales and promising to remove the dagger when the Dragon had done its bidding. Things ended badly for all concerned.

Did you watch the part in the trailer about Dragonborn be "one they fear"? Not to mention, dragons are an intelligent race not a species of pack animal. Enemies + Fear/Hatred of Dragonborn = no mount

My problem with fast travel in Oblivion, I never was interested in the world enough to walk to the quest location, since I knew there wasn't going to be amazing stuff I would find along the way, and that even if I found a cave that there was not going to be anything worthwhile in it due to the scaling.

The fact that the leveling is more like FO3 is somewhat reassuring, as is the mention of the different regions in Skyrim. But still, I would love having some sort of transportation system.

Anyways, I can't see Dragons as fast travel, but who knows since with Dragon shouts you can call one to fight along side you. So who knows.

I think the option of traveling by dragon would be pretty sick. Sure they might be intelligent beings, but if you were allied with one, I don't think it'd care if you were on it's back. I'm also all for Intervention, Mark and Recall spells.
