[HALP] Those pesky meshes

Post » Fri Nov 26, 2010 3:16 am

I've been trying to make a full set of Duke Silver armor (and, by extension, Silver Armor) on and off for a while now. I've working on the bracers and the pauldrons and helmet, but I need some help if I'm going to do it right.

My first attempt with pauldrons was using the Royal Guard pauldron... except that the circle bit that goes over the armpit is redundant due to the silver and duke silver cuirasses already having that. So, the circle needs to be removed from the CL mesh and the ground mesh, http://i468.photobucket.com/albums/rr50/Alaisiagae/Mod%20Screenshot%20MW/Misc/duke_pauld_alt_part.jpg.

Because I couldn't do that on my own, I explored the possibility of using the Templar CL pauldron. However, I'm not satisfied with how the "strap"'s UV map is tiled, like http://i468.photobucket.com/albums/rr50/Alaisiagae/Mod%20Screenshot%20MW/Misc/duke_pauld_part.jpg. I would rather have the strap be one continual texture map, or mirrored across the top on either side (so, there would be a "front" and a "back" but they'd be the same... am I making sense?).

I've got the upper and lower arm for the pauldrons all set, by the way. :)

The next problem to tackle is the helmet. I do have a knock-up of a silver helm + plumes + the duke silver textures. But, I'm not really happy with it, so I tried to see what I could do with a plumed version of the Imperial helmet I've been working on. Applying the Duke Silver textures is very promising, but there are some instances where I want to use the pauldron texture, but I'm not able to because the helm uses all the same texture. What I'd like is for the map to be broken up so that I can assigned different textures to specific chunks, http://i468.photobucket.com/albums/rr50/Alaisiagae/Mod%20Screenshot%20MW/Misc/imp_m_helm_plume.jpg.

The blue question mark and the sad face: Somehow I dun goofed up my Nifskope. Normally, the area my little arrow is pointing to would show the name/file path of the texture. Now, I have to go hunt around in Block Details, which slows me down a lot. Same deal with the Material property. How do I fix this???

If anyone is willing to take a shot at it, http://www.mediafire.com/?4cfb24yplq8gyak that need to be edited.

Unfortunately the meshes wouldn't load in Blender , perhaps someone with a different modelling program can try ?

I loaded them into Blender just fine

I don't know a thing about UV mapping, but here are the edited http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?4qlyx580v5g5ctz

I'd be delighted to help you out here in whatever way that I am able (removal of the little spike and disc on the pauldron is something that I can definitely do at the least). However, I am unable to access the files from Mediafire (have always had problems with that site for some reason unbeknownst to myself).

Alternatively, the http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=2651 might have some meshes that could be suitable for this (the pauldron and the helm, of course). The helm is already an edited from of the Silver helm and the pauldron takes the Adamantium pauldron and adds the neck guard from the Royal Guard (so it looks a bit like the royal guard without the spike and disc).

after you import it into blender, select the object, edit mode, selec all the vertices, press P -> by material.

Then, when you wish to split an item, select the vertices you want to separate, and press P-> Selected.

Each separated part, should have its own material, http://img121.imageshack.us/img121/4665/hyyc.jpg

then, follow http://img811.imageshack.us/img811/7640/666uv.jpgto replace the texture. Click on the "x", and then "load" to load the texture you like.

the texture path, appears correctly to me.

How do I select a vertex? Every time I click with my mouse and move the cursor, it drags the whole mesh around. And I cannot figure out how to change the camera position so that I can get a better look at what I would want to select and edit. :banghead:

@Karpik: Thanks! :D

@Westly: Any suggestions for a hassle-free alternate uploader site I could use?

to select a vertex, you have to http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/7159/yyygn.jpg.(you may also press TAB)

Press Z to view the model in wireframe. (and Z again to view it solid)

Select a vertex by right clicking next to it. Once a vertex is selected, if you press Ctrl + L, all the vertex linked to that one, will be selected as well.
Ctrl + Z to delete your last action.

Press B to use a border selection tool. (press B twice, to have a circle selection tool).
To deselect a vertex, just shift + right click next to it.

Then, use the middle mouse button to rotate the view, move the mouse wheel to zoom the view.
Use the button "View" to have different views.
Shift + Middle Mouse Button to drag all the view.

Before exporting, switch again to object mode, and select all.

I've been partial to 4Shared for a while now. I can only speak for myself, but I have had no issues with 4shared (and have all of my mods and more on back-up there). I know that there are a few instances when others have asked me to post a mod that I have there somewhere else (as they have had issues of their own), but such request have been few (two, IIRC). So I don't know if any site is really hassle free (as someone is bound to have an issue at some point), but 4Shared gets two thumbs and a big toe up from me :D .
