OB GOTY won't install

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:41 am

Hi,

I just got OB GOTY edition today and tried to install it. However when I run setup.exe it comes up with an error saying

Please insert the original disc instead of a backup (4001).

even though I have got the original disc in the drive! I tried it on my friend's computer, and the installation worked fine.

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit Professional.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers.

Most of the time this error is caused by Alcohol 120 or Daemon Tools. If you have either of these installed simply un-mount any images you may have loaded and restart the game.

You don't need to remove the software.

I have PowerISO, not Alcohol 120 or Daemon Tools. However, I don't have any images mounted and it still doesn't work. :(

I shall try uninstalling PowerISO and see if it will then let me install.

I'm having the exact same problem with mine. I'm also having the same problem with my Fallout 3 GOTY. What you can do is right click the icon in my computer and click explore, then simply click on setup. This bypasses the launcher and goes straight into installing the game. Then to run the game, you have to go into the directory where you installed it and click on the oblivion icon, not the launcher icon. If you want to play with mods, you can download the mod manager and that way you don't have to go through the launcher to activate mods.

Apparently, this only works for the fallout goty. But there is a removal tool for securom. I haven't tried it yet, but here's a link https://support.securom.com/removaltool.html
