This old game...

I think, 15 years from now, the only reason I'll keep Xbox360 is to play Oblivion, and Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 3.

if they'd just continued to release expansion after expansion using the Oblivion engine that would have been a fine game that could have held my interest for over a decade.

I agree with this too.

I definitely agree. Great gameplay along with world and story depth will always be worth so much pretty graphics. And I still think my Oblivion set up looks beautiful regardless of its age. :)

With the release of Fallout and New Vegas I know that people aren't playing Oblivion as much as before (Obviously) But now and then, I like to come back and play this game because in 4 words Oblivion is: The best game ever. :obliviongate:

I play it a hell of a lot more than NV.

I can do better than that: I don't play NV at all. Give me a four-and-a-half-year old Oblivion over Fallout 3 or New Vegas any day.

If this game is old, what does that make me? I've played the earlier Bethesda sandbox games, like The Terminator and the first TES:Arena. Those things were archaic, and pretty much obsolete by today's standards. I'm just getting into Oblivion, but this one looks like it has legs. Great games are timeless and I've seen some mentioned already that fall into the Timeless category (FO3, Deus Ex, Daggerfall, etc). Fallout 3 is one of my favorites, and will probably continued to get played as long as my xbox functions (and maybe by then, I'll upgrade my PC and play it on that). And for those not in the know, Fallout: New Vegas is quite a game in it's own right, bugs and all (I've actually had zero game breaking bugs), but in direct competition with Oblivion for my time and attention. So hears to my next Timeless game :foodndrink:

I started playing rpg games for pure escapism but I continue today because I can explore aspects of life that don't fit in to modern living. I learn things about me and get a little insight into the thinking of people I often don't understand. I have also played Civilization for years and for the same reasons. I have gone from totally lacking in imagination to occasionally writing fan-fiction. Angel, my current character is a child prodigy Mage. She is like the daughter I never had and I am always proud of her accomplishments (with a little help from Pappa.)

I really don't think Fallout or NV have affected Oblivion really, certainly not affected it's modding. NV certain seems to have affected FO3, the forum is suddenly fairly quite now.

The game I bought before Ob was Civilization IV, and only really stopped playing due to oblivion. I restarted palying it this summer and bought the expansion/overhaul for it (Beyond The Sword). I was very suprised to learn that most of the extra senario content and even a Better AI mod made by the modding community had been included as official content! Then Civ V came out and is generally considered terrible. Its a far weaker game, just has fancy graphics (out shinnying its predecesor).

It makes me wonder about TES5. Will it be even more actionny and less complicated that Oblivion (compared to how Oblivion is to Morrowind), less off a RPG, with emphasis on graphics not gameplay
