[WIPz] Into Oblivion

Post » Sat Dec 04, 2010 7:53 pm

Do you want this to be lore friendly? It sounds like it, but I'm not sure.

There are certain issues with lore regarding adding a stable gate to Oblivion, as the Amulet of Kings and dragonfires are still functional.
There have been portals to Oblivion before though, but the daedra are unable to cross the boundary into Tamriel. Daedra can't use them, but those from Nirn can.
So I wouldn't make the Daedric ruin containing the gate flooded with daedra from Oblivion, because they can't use the gate, instead have it guarded by worshippers of Mehrune's Dagon.

If you aren't too bothered about lore, then that's ok, just giving you a quick heads-up just in case.

Shannon made some sky boxes btw. Can't link you to them atm, but maybe someone else can.
Btw, it's looking good, I hope to journey to the Deadlands soon. :)

Hm what just came to me is, how exactly are daedra in any daedric ruin around Vvanderfell, they had to have some way to get there, right?

Oh and on topic Midge, this looks awesome, very infernal. :goodjob: May I ask, have you ever danced with daedra by the pale moonlight? :P

In all fairness, it seems that the rules regarding Daedra get bent all the time. There are tales of Sheogorath, for example, visiting Nirn fairly frequently. Likewise, if you go through the literature, you find plenty of other examples of Daedra on the mortal planes. I can't recall the book off-hand, but one in particular involves a marksman and a dumb daedra. Then, you have the whole issue of daedric summoning.

The trick seems to be that they must be invited to the mortal planes, they can't just drop in for tea, and there time is limited. This seems to be why they feel the need to cultivate worshipers, to ensure a steady supply of invitations. I'm guessing that the rules regarding Oblivion gates are different, and that otherwise Daedra could just come into the mortal realms as gods, which would cheese off the existing gods to no end.

Quite believable concept, reminds me of many vampire tales, you know, they can't enter one's house unless invited. :P

Actually, I think the Daedric creatures found around Vvardenfell are just like he other creatures. However, Daedra can't cross from Oblivion to Nirn, I don't know about many exceptions except for summoning. It would only be natural that a lot of Daedra would hang around OB gates because of the strong connection to their home-realm. sort of like animals hanging around with their herd. :P

Looking good.

Why is the gate yellow? I quite like this one:

been doing some more major work on this.

All of the oblvion cells are done. I just need to work in the storyline - nothing major. Then add the scripting :)

This looks like a very interesting mod in the making, Midgetalien. I've missed it the first time around. I'm all for content mods that add something different but still manage to fit in well with the rest of the game. :goodjob:

Yup this will be one of the few mods that can fit into my lore specific game world. The Neverhalls manages this as well.
