yep, sell it to a fence (join the thieves guild), then buy it back, and it won't be marked as stolen :)
(by the way this won't work with things with no value, as you will not be able to buy them back)

You can't buy them back? Black Hand Robes are worth more than 0 though aren't they?
Hmm... Maybe it is because it is clothing which is more valuable than the merchants current clothing, so they decide to wear it (a la morrowind), but I didn't think that happened in OB.
Are you on PC, because there's probably a console command to remove it (not that I know one)

I don't think so, but it is possible to legally get Black Hand robes (more than one) if you continue with the DB questline.
Also, just incase you didn't know, when the guards take you stolen items from you, it is possible to claim them back by finding the "Evidence Chest"s in the prison you were taken to, and breaking into it and stealing them back, however they will still be marked as stolen.
EDIT: Do you know if Black Hand robes are worth more than 0 gold ?

ah, thanks, I was too lazy too look it up :P,
then you won't be able to get it back, but like I said, you can get them legally (well, in a manner of speaking), without a stolen marker later on in the DB questline.
EDIT: The wiki article given by RemkoNL says how & when you get it in the questline.

Yes, yes, I know this is a year old or something, but I dropped a stolen item in a fort, (I don't remember what fort) and picked it up, it was not stolen... I don't know if there was something wrong or if it's that way it's supposed to work there.

Angel is very proud of the red hand on her black, zero weight hood (pickpocketed from Gaston Surilie.) She would fight a whole garrison before giving up that hood. Fortunately she can just go invisible and slip away. More than once, she has refused to enchant that hood which would make it legitimate.

Red hand? I murdered Gaston for the hood, and I didn't get a red hand! I demand compensation!

I discovered a method of removing the stolen tag
you need 2 identical items (like the black hand robes) all you have to do is equip one of the items and then look at your inventory and then one of the items wont have the tag, then just drop it, and then drop the other one and then pick up the one that doesnt have the tag. then your good to go.
you can even get black hand robes without the tag without getting them the normal way, you just need to get 2 sets of them.

I wish there was a way to get the red hand symbol off all items, including zero valued items.
I mean, it's so darn annoying when I steal something awesome and want to put it in my house and it says I'm stealling it...

Don't worry just and treat them as souvenirs like towels with hotel names :) Main problem is clothing and armor, remember I stole a guard uniform and put on, was arrested and travelled around until I checked inventory and found I was topless :)
