Weapon enchantment effects

Post » Mon Dec 06, 2010 8:37 pm

I was sitting here thinking today and i thought that when you enchant weapons that it would have and effect on its appearance. Such as when you enchant a sword with lightning it would spark like tesla armor in fallout 3 and have blue engravings added to the weapon, fire would flame and have red engravings or color tone. Frost would kind of have the smokey effect of liquid nitrogen and light blue/white engraving and color tone. thoughts, ideas criticism.

Polls! Yay!

But yeah, of course they will make it better. Everyone complained about how dumb Oblivion's enchanted weapons and armor looked like.

I actualy think this makes perfect sence. Why wouldnt a magical weapon (or any piece of magical equipment for that matter) not look "magicky"?

Aside the stupid glimmering effect there were a few weapons in Morrowind (Tribunal in particular) that actually had a cool effect like flames coming out of it. Don't know why there wasn't anything like that in Oblivion.

Yes of course, Oblivion was way behind in this category.

Also, I want enchanted arrows and arrows from enchanted bows to still be visible sticking out of the target! You don't have to let use get the enchanted arrows back, but at least give us something cool to look at when we get a perfect shot right in the heart or between the eyes.

This is the reason I always use unenchanted bows with poisons instead of enchanted ones in oblivion.

I dream to weild a katana with animated lightning along the blade (wait, will katanas even be in the game? I remember how much they pretty much disappeared from morrowind to oblivion, leaving only 2 kinds)

I could be wrong, but the GI picture with the icewraiths in it has the character holding what looks to be an enchanted short sword. Nice effect too.

also for arrows with fire enchantment they could also be lit on fire at the tip and as you launch them and that poor unsuspecting guard you can see it soar through the air until bam the guard dies in display of fire

This is expected to be honest. Oblivion was a very basic step in the right direction with enchanted weapons glowing different colors. Now it's time to actually generate elemental enhancements around the weapons to truly make a visceral and great effect.

Any graphical update would be nice but I love enchanted weapons and it would be great if you had weapons that had elements or auras if you will radiating off the weapons: would it be awesome if you could toggle on and off the weapons effect too so it would not use all of its magic with each hit, or whenever the magic runs out in the weapon have the effect b;eed or fade away that would be great.

The only problem that I do see already exists with some mods for Oblivion and the way you view the weapon in relation to the world while playing the game. I like the colored glowing, but an aura can block over a third of your view when wielding a two handed weapon in first person. Hopefully this will not be an issue at all in Skyrim.

If they did it cool.

They did it in Morrowind. Which actually got old, as when you character was in full custom enchanted gear they looked like a shimmering fruitcake.

I always covered myself in a plain bear skin robe.

That’s not to say that they couldn’t do it better in Skyrim though.

Yes, of course I think it would be awesome, as long as it wasn't TOO flashy/gaudy. If I enchant a sword with fire, I'd rather not have the entire blade be bursting in 3 foot high magical flames at all times. If it could be more subtle I'd like it. Flickers of flame coming off the blade now and then. And I've always wanted to enchant a staff with ice and have frost steam come off of it, or a snowflake fall off it once in a while.
