Oblivion has started crashing when I start a new game. I click new, it loads and I can hear the background dungeon music, and when the bar is full it crashes. What would cause this? I've disabled all my mods, shivering isles, and knights, so just oblivion itself is loaded. I have the steam version and am using the latest version of obse. It was working fine until now. I even deleted the unofficial patch supplementals and fast exit 2, which I just installed and is the only "real" difference between what I was using before. Unfortunately, I deleted my old save, so I can't check to see if the problem is only on a new game.

In the same folder as your Saved Games there is a file named Oblivion-this is your Configuration Settings (ini), rename this file to Backup and then try and start a new game. This will cause the game to create a new Oblivion file, you will need to reset your screen resolution and some game settings, but this can fix many issues with your game caused by adding and deleting mods.
If this does not fix your problem you can delete the new Oblivion file and rename Backup to Oblivion.
