Tried Mass Effect

Post » Thu Dec 09, 2010 9:14 pm

I bought FIFA11 the other day, mainly out of it being a yearly ritual more than anything else. I still haven't taken it out of its plastic wrapper and I'm just beginning my second Fallout 3 playthrough.

Does that count? :fallout:

Go back to wherever you bought it, get the money, save em for the NV CE :D

I played Mass Effect 1 and 2 twice each after Fallout 3, so FO did not ruin other games for me. I still play Oblivion and go back to FO3 occasionally.

I absolutely loved ME2. I'm still playing it. Actually created a good-looking female Shepard who is ruthless. And by shooter, I mean, combat seemed like a big box level every time. I've killed many an enemy without a bullet. There's nothing more satisfying than whipping multiple enemies against a wall after lifting them into the air. :) And I enjoy the conversation options. Scanning planets, however, even though I was excited at first blush, is for the birds.

Yes, there are consequences to every action, yes you can influence your fate, and those of others and yes there are role-play possibilities, but, it just isn't immersive as F3 and ES4, for me. You can only pull out your weapon at certain points, there is a definite difference between those types of interactions, I guess the problem is that there isn't enough of a fluid transfer from a peacetime event, to a battle event. I like how in Fallout 3, there are sometimes explosive transitions from friends to instant enemies.

I tried the witcher (was on offer dirt cheap on steam at the time) but I ended up going back to FO3 after 5 hrs ish. I had high hopes for it but probably didn't give the game long enough. Also tried FO1 but ended up putting that down after a few hours as well, both times coming back to FO3. .

I'm hoping to give both of these another good try in future (and pick up the Mass Effect games at some point), but when exactly I don't know, Vegas might take up a lot of spare time until X-mas!

Borderlands on the other hand was good fun and kept me keen till the end, although Borderlands has a co-op element to it which FO3 doesn't have. I think the playing with friends and chatting with mic's adds to the Borderlands gameplay as well. If you have freinds that are interested in Borderlands I would certainly recommend it :)

I have to bit clear with Boarderlands. I played that game 3 months non stop it is lot of fun and additive and could not get away from that game. The time I stopped when that midget killed me in Mad Moxx's Underdome Riot when I was getting somewhere and done a rage quite.

On the topic of Borderlands, is it worth a look for someone who would probably not ever play coop? Looked really interesting, but I was never sure if it would be a good buy for me as I'd only ever play single-player...

I got it as a single player at first. I don't have Live. It was highly addicting, and a lot of fun, especially the second playthrough. I found an orange revolver that combined did like 1500 damage of explosive, corrosive and fire. But I digress.... man that was a sweet weapon. And then my buddy came over for beers, and we ended up cracking out on it on just the game part, for like a month.
Single Player = Great
Co-op, whether it's live or not, is fantastic. Screaming at each other and healing each other and running around lol, quite fun. :foodndrink:

I'd highly suggest getting ME 2 at some point before the 3rd installment, great overall game.

Honestly, the same thing happened to me. I did not know much about it, so I wasn't even aware that you eventually took control of your own starship. Once you become a Spectre and get the ship it hooks you pretty well.

Mass Effect 2 was the better one in my opinion. I played the first one on PC ( maybe that was the problem) and by the end of it I was so dog tired of glitches and elevators that I just couldnt wait for it to be over I finished it out of a sense of not letting the game beat me. Just wish I felt the same way about Oblivion.

I got Fallout 3 late July. A couple of weeks later I picked up Oblivion. I restarted about ten times and never really got into it. I went back to Fallout and only touched Oblivion rarely. When Halo: Reach was released I played that for a day or two, but then Fallout got another turn. I play Reach occasionally, but Fallout gets more playtime. Then for my birthday easier this month I got Halo: Wars. A friend of mine and I had played the [censored] out of that game, but I never had it for myself. I played a match or two, but went back to Fallout again! I just can't let that game go. It has ruined my life... but for the better! :fallout:

Mass Effect 2 was more disappointing than Xenosaga. They really screwed u that game. Now I her that ME3 may have multi player. lol, Bioware is dead. With that said ME1 was actually an RPG and a classic, try it again. If you can get into 1, try Alpha Protocol. It was bashed by critics but its a lot like ME1.
