Obse Woes

Post » Tue Dec 14, 2010 3:07 am

"Couldn't find Oblivion.exe, make sure your running this from the same folder as your Oblivion.exe."

I get this every time I try to run OBSE. I am reinstalling Oblivion for the 3rd time, and before I installed any mods, I installed SI and the latest patch. I dropped the OBSE files into the folder it specifies, and tried to run it. Every time I try, this message comes up. I have tried placing the OBSE files in DATA as well, but it still does not work. Below is a screenshot of my folder, and proof that I am running the latest patch. Starting Oblivion using the regular launcher works fine. I even tried reinstalling Oblivion AGAIN, and this still occurs. Any idea on what is causing this?

I take it you have installed Oblivion in a custom folder?

Just a few checks, what OBSE version did you download, and are you using the Steam or D2D version of the game?

Yes, instead of installing in the default "Program Files", I installed it in "My Documents/My Games". I had it installed there previously, and OBSE worked fine.

I downloaded the one http://obse.silverlock.org/, the second link. It is the 18.6 Beta. I am using the disc version of the game, but not GOTY. I have separate discs for Oblivion and SI.

"My Documents/My Games/Oblivion" is the directory that Oblivion creates to store necessary save game and configuration data.

It is likely the one place that you absolutely should not install Oblivion itself to.

Obse is likely detecting a conflict from that and choking.

Try re-installing (yes, again) but use a directory like "C://MyGames/Bethesda/Oblivion" instead of in the "My Documents" folder.

It's the only thing I can think of.
