Npc Ai Problem

I've been having this problem for awhile now, since shortly after I started my new game (I'm about 20 hours in). For some reason, hostile NPCs and creatures will often just stand around in combat - if they spot me, they'll turn to face me, but they won't move. If they can cast spells or use ranged weapons, they will, but otherwise they won't move or act unless I come into melee range. I've seen this with animals and NPCs too - if someone attacks a wolf or bear or whatever, the animal will adopt the "aware" stance, but won't move to attack.

I updated a huge number of bash tags on some mods, and reordered some things in the wrong place, but the problem has persisted. In fact, it's gotten even weirder - today, I was walking over the bridge SE of the IC; there's a highwayman there who normally extorts money from you if you come near. This time, he just gave me the standard Khajiit greeting ("Does it speak? Does it say words?") and otherwise ignored me.

I'm surprised you're running an FCOM game - if I understood you correctly in the OOO thread you're using OOO Lite? As far as I know, FCOM requires OOO Full.

Hmm... I dunno. The FCOM site says to start with 1.33 Full and add 1.34, but that's for 0.9.9. I'll have to ask in the FCOM thread.


You may have AI overload. Too many NPCs running their scripts and packages at one time. Try cutting down on mods that add spawns and/or use mods that reduces spawns, like one of the FCOM Less Spawns add-ons.

That's what I thought too, but AI overload generally means they stand there and do absolutely nothing, not even speak or attack. I've seen that before, too. This problem hits only sometimes, and not even with the same enemies - I had to go over that bridge I mentioned several times due to crashes, and every time after the first, the highwayman acted normally - he ran up, demanded money, then attacked when I refused. I am using Spawn Rates Reduced, BTW - that's about the only one you can use with FCOM that reduces spawns.

Try putting http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8158 in towards the end of your load list. If it does the job, then AI overload will be the issue. If not...well, have you checked out what BOSS says about your load order?

I thought 2.05 fixed all those problems? I downloaded the USIP-MOBS-FCOM patch and installed it; that might have fixed the issue. I went through Ft. Magia (multiple times due to crashes and one death) and didn't encounter any problems at all.

You never know. I had the same problem you've described. For kick and giggles try removing Reneer's Guard Overhaul and see if it clears up.
