The Thief Wars

Post » Tue Dec 14, 2010 4:28 am

The thieves guild has always been the top thieves around. Always number one, never number two. Recently a crime sydnicate has showed itself, and has been doing some things the guild doesn't approve of. The Cyrodiilian and Morrowindian Sects of the Thieve's Guild wish to end this new guild's reign of terror. However the Illiac Bay Region's Sect has joined and is assisting in the work. The Cyrodillian/Morrowindian sects have started using the dark brotherhood, however the new guild is too. They are also using kidnapping, murder, and blackmail to get the other guild gone...

In this RP you can be a new guild thief, and old guild thief, a dark brotherhood assassin, or a legionairre investigating cases.

It sounds like a great idea, and the title caught my eye immediately, however there are a few problems:

The Thieve's Guild (or at least, the Morrowind/Cyrodiil branch) does not approve of murder, or violence of any kind. They believe in secrecy, not assassinations :nono: So, get rid of the violent parts that involve the Brotherhood and it will be much more lore friendly (and interesting, I promise).

Why not just say "the High Rock/ Hammerfell branch" instead of Illiac Bay? Some less lore informed members might not even know where that is, and it is generally a better idea to use two correlating location names.

Put in some more backstory. What started this conflict? Who are the leaders of the branches? Do the Cyrodiil and Morrowind branches get along? What is the plan for stopping the new group? Etc.

I really suggest keeping all your players in the same faction. So, like I said, drop the Brotherhood (it really seems like a last minute addition without much purpose) and perhaps the rival Illiac branches. It adds to the mystery and suspense if the antagonists remain a mystery, and it will probably be easier if you simply control all their actions against the players. I also advise you playing the Gray Fox, or getting a really experienced RPer to do it, to avoid any plot problems.

Other than that it looks good, just add more detail and fix a few things :goodjob:

Alright revised version

The Thieves' Guild is in war with a new guild of thieves. The Cyrodiil/Morrowind Branches are using blackmail and sleight of hand to take down this new thieves' guild. However the High Rock and Hammerfell Branches have joined. The new guild calls itself, "The Midnight Sydnicate" They use blackmail, kidnapping, deception, and the dark brotherhood to take down the old guild. The leader of this new guild is a criminal mastermind (of a very special origin you will learn if you are in the new thieves' guild and a VERY high-ranking member). They were fine until the new thieves started stealing jobs. Every passing day the Midnight Sydnicate is getting more and more power over Tamriel. They must be stopped. The thieves of the Midnight Sydnicate have no code except get the job done, no matter what. They serve as assassins, thieves, bandits, kidnappers, marauders, and whatever else is needed. They tend to prefer kidnapping, blackmail, and assassinations over just simple stealing. The Thieves' Guild must fight them, stop them, and destroy them, before they are destroyed by this sydnicate.

You may be a Midnight Sydnicate member or a Thieves' Guild member. Or even a legionairre in the middle of this, investigating. This RP will take place in the Imperial City.

Well Zalphon

-cut-

For the Imperial city, seems like a decent idea, although, unless the syndicate is connected to the DB, then it would not work.

The DB is connected to Sithis, and honors Sithis, and ONLY Sithis.

I still don't see though.

If you talk to Armand Christophe in Oblivion, he says.

"We don't kill people...this is not the Dark Brotherhood..."

The thieves guild isn't, and the sectors all still answer to the Gray fox. The guild did not kill Heronymous (SP.) Lex, they just moved him. If some guild like that starting killing thieves guild members, the guild would use the watch against them. You have to see the TG for what it actually is. gamesas made the DB and Tong for the killing.

Yeah, Wooly what are you talking about? I'm guessing you missed the revision :)

Sounds better, I see you took out the playable DB aspect, and gave these guys a name. You make them the bad guys while keeping the original Guild's purity, which also offers a good internal conflict to the protagonists. Well done, though I still have some suggestions:

Clean up the introductory statement for the actual RP thread, just a little revision to make it sound better and more interesting is all.

I still reccomend not letting people play as this Midnight Syndicate. It might sound cool, but people usually have no problem playing good guys, and it is much more interesting and enjoyable, trust me. Like I said earlier, leaving the antagonist's actions in the dark, or at least partially mysterious, adds much more excitement and suspense. The RPers are more together, thus more character interaction, and that leads to better RPing. You can have people in the Guild be slightly crooked, criticizing the Fox's continued purity even with the new threat, but not too much.

Same thing with the Legion; no real need to have them beyond choices. But sometimes choices can be bad ;)

Looks much better, keep it up :goodjob:

EDIT: Wooly, I don't think you get what he's saying. The Guild over in Hammerfell and High Rock went rogue. They are no longer thieves, they are just generally bad people. They are criminals with no honor, and the real Guild has to stop them. Though I do suggest an explanation for why they went rogue (perhaps reveal more about this leader, which would be better if you make it an unplayable faction).

EDIT AGAIN: I saw that time thing :) No harm done, don't worry about it.

What you need to do, is switch it from the thieves guild, to the DB. That would work best, in my opinion.

I don't think so. The whole point is that the Guild doesn't kill people, which leads to very honorable and likeable protagonists, which can be fun to RP. The plot revolves around stopping this new evil threat, and the challenge is that they have to do it without resorting to violence or murder. Such a conflict has all the recipes for classical sucess, why change it?

I bet you're just saying that because how much you like the Brotherhood :D What can I say, I do too. But this RP works much better with thieves.

PS I really wouldn't advise a recruitment thread just yet, but seeing as how you already made one there is nothing to be done. In the future wait at least a day or two so people see it and agree to join.

EDIT: My point exactly! This sounds like an excellent RP, though much more planning and thought should be put into it before you start. I'm tempted to file it away for use later if it doesn't go too well ;) (Compliment)

Meh I don't care for the DB that much...

Too evil...

I bet the DB would get involved in such a thing though, just not allied with another organization. This would be a fun RP, if done right,

I'm not basing everything of OB, but.

OB is 60 years later than Daggerfall.

I thought it was 15-20. A guild doesn't change that much in 60 years.
