Re-Issue Fallout 1 & 2

Post » Tue Dec 14, 2010 8:26 am

I knew of Fallout when it was first released, but at the time did not have a computer of my own. My first venture into the series was Fallout 3, and I really enjoyed it. I was wondering if Bethesda or Obsidian had any intention of issuing a re-release of parts 1 & 2 for the home console. I understand that you can still purchase 1 & 2 for the P.C. But I think a re-release with updated graphics and possible expansions would be a great addition. What do you think?

Sorry wrong forum. Plus I doubt Bethesda have the rights to re issue those old games. And they are already sold on most online stores for pc.

If you own a P.C. you can play fallout1&2 no problem they run on [censored]tiest of the [censored]tiest PCs. unless you have an apple computer that uses use 5 1/2 floppies you can run fallout1&2 on your P.C. You could probably run them on the P.C. that you are using now to make these posts.

Yeah, I don't think you'll get much support for a remake here. It's not a bad idea, but it seems like Bethesda wants to move the series forward. I definitely think that a remake would sell. There's a lot of people who started with Fallout 3 and a trip through the Fallout history would be more like a new game than a remake.

@E Huntington. I agree 100%. That's exactly what they would be...new games to a large pool of current Fallout fans like myself who started with 3. To flesh out the universe and give us back story in an updated version would be perfect. Since the developers at Obsidian were working for Black Isles (Interplay) they would be the perfect group to work on it. This would also give them the opportunity to fix what they felt needed fixing (if anything), and add on what they couldn't fit in the past. With the addition of expansions for part 1 & 2 they would also draw in old school, hard core Fallout fans looking for more. The opportunity to make tons of money is there. At the same time Bethesda could continue to move the franchise forward.

Actually, neither Bethesda nor Obsidian hold the rights to any kind of release of the originals. Interplay holds those, and the rights they hold only cover releasing them in their orginal forms on the PC.

Anything more, may well require having to share any money made with Bethesda, and Interplay would likely chop off their own arms than work with Bethesda in such a way these days.

I kind of misunderstood the topic, they already put fallout1&2 and tactics in a bundle packages back on the shelves, that was kind of a re-release, but not a re-make release. The original fallouts aren't as rare to find these days as they were about 3-5 years ago.

Just get the PC versions. F1 and 2 can't be played on consoles.

This is actually a brilliant idea, specially if they were to do it via DLC before New Vegas comes out. Get everyone who hasn't played or just doesn't remember fully the happenings of Fallout 1-2, tactics even. They are nigh impossible to find. I would Download them the day they came out on Xbox live.

As I pointed out. None of the groups which could do an Xbox LIVE release can or will.

Interplay only holds the rights to distribute the originals unmodified on the PC.

Bethesda holds the rest of the rights, but have no interest in recoding and rereleasing somebody elses work*. (And they'll need extensive recoding to work on the Xbox)

*Also why they didn't finish Van Buren.

As for being impossible to find?

The Trilogy (1,2 and Tactics) can still be found in shops.

Good Old Games has them. http://www.gog.com/en/search/sort/search/fallout

They are availiable on Steam.

I think a couple of other online retailers have them too.

I don't think Interplay is interested in re-releasing these games on consoles - porting them over (particularly if they're updating the graphics or content) would be a lot of work and I question whether it would be financially worth it. While this is an idea that is brought up occasionally here I think Interplay would have a hard time selling these games for $15 or $20 (individually) on consoles when you can get them for so much less for PC.
