Sell stolen items

Post » Thu Dec 16, 2010 3:33 pm

Hi, if i steal something in Oblivion inside a house of someone in Bruma, lets say a sword, there is no possible way to sell it to someone in the imperial city because its stolen. How do they know that?

I hope in skyrim, it is possible to sell simple things like swords or shield or other regular items. But special items like horses or special weapons, armor should have some sort of ownership certificate. If you kill the owner, you could steal the certificate, or when you buy a horse, you also get a certificate. I could add something nice to the game imo. Also the thieves guild could provide in false documents...

It would be cool if you ask me. What do you think?

You would need a certificate for every item of random loot or an extra coded id for every item [ found stolen stolen with certificate ] .also the inventory in Oblivion was already clogged with useless quest items [ only one mod I'll take keychain thanks ]. And what if the the merchant knew the owner. Better to be able to sell stolen items freely but have specific items such as paintings or heirlooms not found in dingeons that are automatically marked stolen and need to be fenced . You can sell a steel sword you've stolen, but if you steal Freki Bearhand's Ancestral S word, then buyers will be limited. Only my humble opinion.

No certificates. That'd be annoying and wouldn't really make sense, but maybe make items notable and thus they get reported stolen.

So what I mean is like you steal a spoon and you can sell it right away, because how is anyone gonna know you stole it? Spoons are everywhere. Nobody would even notice. But if you stole something expensive, they would report it and then it would take a while depending on the price to lose the stolen tag, because eventually people would forget.

Also, guards won't know you stole something unless they give you a random search or see you wearing/holding the item. If you have a high enough speechcraft and the person likes you enough, you can sell it to them even though it's stolen.
