I suspect that Dragon Shouts will be performed by the player

That has the potential to be VERY annoying

Ahh, that would be awesome. Long have I waited for an FPS/RPG to incorporate voice interaction. And no, EndWar didn't do it for me.

I certainly hope it's not like that, I don't want to need a microphone just to play the game, nor do I want to have to explain to my family why I'm shouting random words in a made-up language at my computer, nor would I want to end up dying because I was playing the game with a cold and can't get the shouts right due to my throat not feeling good.

I suppose I wouldn't mind it as an option, as long as an alternate mthod existed, but it still seems like the sort of gimmick that would quickly lose its novelty, and it's probably harder to program than it's really worth.

Hopefully not. Actually, I'm quite sure it won't be done this way. Certain even.

I'd rather not. Sometimes I like to listen to other music, or watch a movie whilst playing, so that would interfere. If it was optional, I'd be okay with it, but I still don't see it happening.

We'll learn single words and then have a menu where we can combine three of them into a shout.

It will allow for some discovery as we expiriment with different word combinations. The order of the words will matter.

Something new to find in caves/ruins will be writing carved into the walls in dragon tongue, from which we will gain new words to expiriment with.

That's what I'm hoping for.

But this has also a drawback. Either you get only a handfull of words, which will limit the "Cath em all" principle or the vast majority of combinations will have no effect, which is frustrating.

Little example: We will get around 20 shouts of three words each. Let's assume thta we have 60 different words. That makes 205320 combinations. Only 20 combinations will hit. That's a mere 0.01 %. Or other speaking if you just have to guess your shouts you will hit a right shout in every 10000th try.

The other way around we could get 24 different shouts out of 4 words! With 6 words we only would hit a right shout in every 6th try.

So the number of words has to be really limited or we need another way do find the right shouts. Maybe each word is only usable at a predefined position (like 20 word for the first word and so on). Maybe we must additionally learn the shouts themselves.

Doesn't everybody scream at their monitor already when playing a game? Or is it just me?

At any rate, voice recognition software nowadays is pretty advanced. Yet I don't think such a feature of actually shouting through a microphone in order to trigger these Dragon Shouts will be present. ;)

You probably learn a single word everytime you kill a dragon. You then, through some sort of system organise these words into phrases

Doubtful, it's most likely that you will be setting the shout via the menu like spells and pressing a key to execute it. But if there is indeed something like your suggestion, it needs to be optional.

I don't want to go screaming around while playing, I live with my family... And this would become very frustrating and annoying after sometime, imagine everytime you want to use your shout, you have to pic the microphone and scream. What if you are playing during the night and you want to make noise? What if you don't know Dragonic and just wanna have so friggin' fun with the game? What if you don't have a microphone? What if you are focusing on fighting a creature and you need to use one of your shouts and you can't remember how to spell it, or you can't lose attention on what you are doing so you can scream on the microphone?

It's a neat idea, but it's not useful at all. And voice recognition is still a hard task, recognizing all different voice tones and pitches, accents and how quick you speak.

I don't think this will be the only way to activate the shouts. There will almost certainly be some backup method using button presses, for the sake of the hearing impaired and those who'd feel too self-conscious yelling dragon language at their televisions. Alternatively, they may use some sort of unique in-game activation method, something like the Legend of Zelda series uses for the ocarina or Wind Waker baton. And of course I could be way off and the shouts are just assigned a button like any spell or attack.

The question I'd like to ask, though, is how you'd feel about using your voice to empower your character. Do you think such a feature would be beneficial to immersion, or too jarring and would pull you out of the experience? And there's the fear that, if not implemented properly, shouts could be frustrating and difficult to pull off. Or, if the game doesn't actually have this feature, would you be interested in a mod that added it?

Share your thoughts, denounce me as a fool, whatever you want. Speculation is fun :)

Well, if I didn't have sleeping children, then I might be willing to shout at my computer. but I'd use the backup method you mentioned most often. Overall, I probably wouldn't use it.
