[RELz] Ushindra Beach

Post » Fri Dec 17, 2010 4:47 am

Nice to see it being worked on since I use the mod :goodjob:

Since I picked up morrowind again last week or so with the mod installed, way cool swimsuits :D
Experiencing some new stuff about dialoge around the shrine of kummu, about slaughterfish, was there to get an ebony helm and amulett, got the helmet but the people which gives you the amulett had a topic about slaughterfish from ushindra′s beach mod, iirc also a travelling merchant had that topic (use that mod).

No biggie but it was peculiar since it was a new experience, haven′t got that before,so I′m mostly curious here.

@Maholix:
Yes, Ushindra Beach is a little gem. And apart from the rather modern swimsuits, it doesn't stray away from lore too far. Sure, there are a couple of unusual NPC names, but I'll probably discuss those with The Pixie. And even if they stay in, it still is fun to play.
About the "unknown mods" page: Mandamus has already set a link to Wiwiland in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1057001-list-of-morrowind-modders-resources/page__view__findpost__p__15742753.

@jaxawier:
I guess that's what happens when another mod reverts Ushindra's Cell name changes to the defaults. By default, Ushindra Beach's Cells are a part of the Ascadian Isles, and when another mod changes them back from "Ushindra" to "Ascadian Isles", the dialogue might be changed accordingly. And seeing that the Ascadian Isles stretch from Ebonheart to Suran... I'll try to make at least Ushindra's dialogue waterproof: thank you for reporting the problem!

I just got schooled. Remember kids, always check the sticky threads on a regular basis! :grad:

And I do agree, lore or not, it can be a fun thing to play with, but I'd need a character just for non-lore stuff. When I play a game, it's often about immersion as well as game play. If that's gone, I find I don't focus as well and later find myself thinking "I should do something more constructive" because I am very aware I am just sitting in front of a computer. It's easier for me if I am like "ok, so I turn left and go find gruggle.. but I have to be careful not to lose my men in this fight. What would the villagers think?" When something breaks that, it's like someone clapping the book shut.

With a character just for that though, I don't have worry about things clashing as bad, because I'm not as in zone. As long as it's long enough and has it's own story that doesn't mix with the built in lore or the way the game handles things outside the zone, I can forget I am in MW.. kind of like white wolf of lokken.. although it's lore friendly, it's on a whole other level. When you go back you kinda blink and go.. oh yeah, the dunmers. Forgot about them.

It's time for a small progress report:

From my agenda in post #15:
  • fix a potentially quest breaking dialogue filtering issue with Matus Mido in the PQ_BeachPersuasion quest
    Done
  • look into Ileandri's dialogue/script. Whenever I pay her to cast a restoration spell on me, a guard will attack and kill her.
    Edit 2010-09-08: Done
  • make Ushindra Beach completely compatible with http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1045818 (just a small dialogue/scripting addition; Ushindra Beach won't even become dependent on RoHT)
    Done
  • look into the bug Nicholiathan reported. Maybe it's possible to make the dialogue filters independent of Cell names
    Done
  • possibly add a couple of Greetings so that quests will flow smoother
    Done
  • possibly adjust the landscape so that Ushindra Beach will become compatible with Dulsya Isle (not sure about this yet)
Decided against it. Too much trouble, and I'd probably spoil the beautiful landscape if I tried to rebuild it
  • fix all bugs I'll be aware of. If you encounter a bug, please let me know of it, either in this thread or via PM
I fixed all errors I could find. Nevertheless: this is a constant task. Please report any bugs you find.
  • fix visual lapses
    Done
  • document the mod's global variables in its scripts
    Edit 2010-06-08: Done

There's also a little surprise in the works by a prominent member of this forum. I'll leave the unveiling to that member. :ninja:

 time to go find out a secret!

In all seriousness, thanks for working on this. It's always nice when a mod gets better functionality.

Maybe you will, and then you'll probably think: "This is how it should have been in the first place." ;)

Anyway, time for a small progress report again:
I have discussed some structural changes with The Pixie, and as a result Ushindra Beach is now combined with its Tribunal addon. It was already using Tribunal variables in earlier versions, so I finally made nails with heads and merged the addon into the main mod. I have also changed a couple of NPC names for improved consistency with Morrowind's naming conventions. The appurtenant dialogue topics, Greetings, and Journal entries are naturally adapted as well.
I'll probably take yet another step further and merge some content from the unreleased "Ushindra Plus" into the main mod as well. Apart from that, my next objectives will be to check north markers, icons, activators (persisting references where needed), implementing RoHT compatibility, and balancing the swimwear prices a bit.

Time to bump this thread and post an update :)

The Pixie did a really good work with his/her swimwear, but in the original version of Ushindra Beach the ground meshes included did not really match the swimsuits, briefs and tops. I have created new gnd meshes for the 65 or so clothing items included in this mod, here are pictures of what I did:

These pictures are also a good way to see all the clothes included in this mod, for those of you who haven't tried it yet.

These new ground meshes will be included in the update bhl is working on.

That's all, hope you like the pictures :)

I'm sure Pixie would approve - these are good ground meshes - are you thinking of releasing them as a resource?

I'm also sure that Pixie will approve. When I presented to him Mandamus' offer to create new ground meshes, he immediately agreed. I'll just integrate those meshes into the mod, write the ReadMe File, sent it to Mandamus to either approve or change, have another look at the mod, and then I'll send the mod to Pixie.
Good news for modders as well: Mandamus regards those meshes as a modders resource. Of course, it's up to him to release them separately, but interested parties can always extract them from Ushindra's archive.

Thank you :) and as bhl said although these meshes won't be released separately they will become a modders resource as soon as the new version of UB is out. To be honest, though, the uvmapping on some of meshes is very poor, and only designed to work with The Pixie's specific textures (some of the tops in particular have horrendous uvmapping) but if a modder pms me about specific meshes I will remap them to suit his or her needs ^^

Nice work here :3
I didn't knew about Ushindra, now I wait for the release of this!
Sure the suits give personality to the mod, very good work on ground meshes, it's always nice to see them match with their respective cloth models.
