Mounts ,Vehicles and realistic encumbrance

Post » Sat Dec 18, 2010 4:03 pm

I hope that Skyrim Will not just have one Horse , ( hopefully severall types ) but also pack animals and A cart or vehicle where you can pack more items and loot , this would allow to have a more realistic encumbrance system that won't turn you into a moving cargo , but instead allows you to distribuite all yur items ona cart or pack animal and wodl be also cool to see the bags get filler and filler as you fill the space .... and eventually buy a new pack animal or a bigger vehicle to pack stuff in ...

Nice. Perhaps an assistant as well that could bring the cargo to a market of your choice to sell/store this. And with a ?% chance that he will be robbed on the way. Perhaps you also need to treat him/her well, other vice his/her loyalty might lessen. But if you provide him/her with good gear and a weapon for protection and a descent salary the chance for robbery/less loyalty reduces.

I would love to see carts and so on. To expand on that, I'd love to be able to rob them. My dashing rogue laying wait in the woods... muhwahaha

Max carry weight:
Strength x 3

Things should also weight more, and heavy armor should not weight 0 once you are a master in it.

Repair hammers should weight 3 or 4 each, i'm serious. This would make the less pro in the skill not able to repair as much.

Weapons should also weight slightly more, because it is too easy in Oblivion to carry 5 different weapons and simply switch as the situation demands for it.

One thing i've always wanted is to see, everything I carry on my character in third person mode. That would be so cool, to see the bow and arrows in your back, repair hammer in your belt, a small purse with your money in, poison bottles in your belt, sword in your hand, dagger in your boots.. :D
Maybe a mod?

One thing that annoyed me in Oblivion was the same "clip-clop" sound your horse made - no matter what ground it was running on.

Horses do NOT make a "clip-clop" sound when running on soft grass!

For horses in general, take a leaf out of Red Dead Redemption's book - Rockstar know how to do horses.

FLYING MOUNT

if akaviri has dragons, it may have wyverns/some other dragon like thing

or at least let it be modded in by attaching a seat node to the model/allowing akaviri to ride on them (assuming the enemy is from akaviri)

A flying mount woudl be cool , but this implies that Bethesda doesn't go for they ursual trick of making the cities separated from the wilderness... I hope they do separate tough so to allow dlight spell and flight mounts ... Also allowing superhuge world space...

NPCs using carts and boats is what i missed most in ES IV. All those crates and noone ever moved them. All those shops and noone ever moved the wares around. I wish they woul use carts, boats and ships to spread the wares around realistically.

How about foot rackets for walking on high soft snow?

Something like this would be fitting?

I had once considered the need to carry everything you had in real containers/positions, but I dismissed that as it wouldn't work in this series.

I woul dlike also that they for once added boats and rowboats in the game to be able to craft even eventually , navigate the rivers and the coast , may be even have a small crew on a viking like ship , that woudl be great ....

Well, hopefully the worldspace will be big enough to give the impression of real distance between settlements. If Skyrim is truly wild, you should have to travel for a day or two at least to get from town to town.

That said, I really don't want to see carts & wagons - seems a bit too "civilized" for Skyrim. I also doubt we'll see traveling merchants on the road, which again is ok with me - that sort of thing would work better in Cyrodiil, which is flatter & has (presumably) better roads. I don't know how the rivers will bet set up, but perhaps some boat traffic (implied, not actually happening in game time) will be in.

I do definitely want encumbrance to be more limiting this time around, either by lowering your carry limit or increasing item weight. The TIE mod for Oblivion did a nice job with encumbrance. Repair hammers, for example, weigh 4 each (& are rare) so you need to watch what you pick up. You have enough to carry a few weapons & armor, but not multiple sets.

Worst.Car.Ever.

I'm all for the addition of actual backpacks and showing them on your character. Pack horses and carts too. I never liked how you can just haul everything you own around simply by being strong enough. Encumbrance is not just about weight, also bulkiness. Yeah, maybe you can carry the weight of 8 Halberds, but how do you fit them in your backpack?

I think it should done in a manner where everything you have assigned to your quick-acces wheel/buttons actually shows on your character so it's easily accessible. Everything else you carry around should be either in a pack or on a mount/cart.

Yep, I'm all for a better encumbrence system.

It'd be nice to run some dogs on a sled, drag a pulk, etc.

Or

Have a horse draw cart that always has a wayward back compartment ;)

It shouldn't be as realistic as this.

BTW i thought of having my quiver on my leg, that would be awesome.

Concerning the encumbrance, i liked how they did it in Fallout (you would walk very slowly while over-encumbered) instead of beeing stuck on the spot like in Oblivion
