100 hours in, level 38, not even close to done

Post » Mon Dec 20, 2010 1:55 am

I'm using nGCD. Played 100 hours and at level 38. Maybe halfway through thieves guild & DB, most of mages guild, just started fighters. Haven't started MQ. Have 69 caves/mines/ruins/forts left. 125 explored.

Not even close to done

Am I going to hit any issues? Stats aren't maxed yet due to nGCD

There shouldn't be a problem with being a high level during most quests, aside from the level scaling making most monsters extraordinarily difficult to defeat.

Slider all the way to left whole game. Going for 100% completion. Obsessed :)

Well I′m 1400+ hrs and some even more with no end in sight so no, you′re not even close to done

A-bomb after 200 hrs I believe it is. Spell graphics, door/fire animations etc freeze. Not sure if it happens to everyone but it′s a well-known problem here

My character is rapidly approaching 600 hours (just a young babe compared to mirocu's), and we are quite proud of the fact that she has only completed what I estimate to be 20% of the game's quests. She does enjoy random dungeon diving though and has explored inside perhaps 50% of the dungeons at least once. Delightfully for those who play the same character for a very long time, all those yummy dungeons respawn. Ya kills the baddies, but a few days later, new ones move in! How cool is that? It's the same neverending story with those darn ghost types that like to infect her (and other) chapels. And even baddies along the roads.

Sometimes, we make a save, then do a quest and reload so we can do the same quest again later if we want to. We don't do that often though.

I guess the A bomb can be a prob on some platforms, but it's easy enough to fix on PC (I used to use OAF, now I use WB).

100% completion, eh? My character would and does balk at loads of quests. Wrinkling her nose is usually my first clue that she's gonna walk away. Oh, and she gets quite cranky at me if I don't warn her about quests or questlines where her friends or mages guild mates could get killed. No worries, she has no interest in ever being Arch Mage or anything silly like that.

You can go 4 years of playing Oblivion and never finish the main quest, or in my case, finished it once, with one character.

I guess I'll install OAF. I've been using OBMM and am plenty happy with it, and Wyre Bash looks extremely complicated and hard to get right. I don't like that, I just want to finish my game in the next 100 hours or so and then probably put Oblivion away for Good. (Sad to say, but I don't want to play Ob forever. Just marking time until TES V!)

Edit: It appears the correct thing to do is:

1) Wait until I see animations appear to freeze which in my case should not be for at least 100 hours or so (I'm only at 100 hours so far).

2) The animation freeze will be obvious.

3) Back up my Saves.

4) Run OAF.exe, and I will see in the "Byte" field the value 49.

5) Click the "FixMe" button to use the "Preset value of "40" (instead of 49).

6) Click Save.

7) Open the OAF_ savegame in Oblivion.

Repeat any time the freeze happens again.

Do I understand the process correctly?

Thanks

I just reviewed my old OAF stuff. That sounds like it is right. I recall finding it pretty simple and reliable to use.

Wrye took some reading, but by following the excellent instructions carefully, installing it went smoothly. Fixing the A Bomb with WB is like: select saved game, select 'fix A bomb', done. Very slick.

You will notice the A bomb when the 'passing through a door' animation takes very very long (it will eventually get to where it will completely freeze if left untreated), and when you cast a spell the swirlies last abnormally long before they disipate.

Well I showed Lothran a picture of Buffy, and even though he said nothing, his words would probably be just "babe!"

Oh yes, you will definitely notice it :) I use a program called OBSAF I think. Very easy to use and very reliable. Just drop it in your save folder, start it up and let it run. It automatically fixes every savegame that has the bomb. Voilá!

That sounds super for the OP, since he sounds like he doesn't want to get as deeply involved in mods as WB can support. It sounds even easier than OAF. Never heard of it, but glad you mentioned it. :goodjob:

At 100 hours in, you really don't need to worry about the a-bomb. However, you've gotten some good advice here. I cannot recommend Wrye Bash enough for handling a lot of stuff. (And the Unofficial Oblivion Patch, for making sure some stuff just never even occurs.)
