Was the BoS "Pure Strain Human"

Post » Mon Dec 20, 2010 5:28 pm

Hello everyone,

Are the West and East coast BoS pure strain humans (as in the Enclaves definition of them)? They are always seen wearing PA when outside, and have a base underground that would protect them from mutation.

So, are they "Pure Strain Human"?

Cheers,
Mk II

I suppose some of them might be, depending on exactly where they came from and how well they have controlled their environments.

There are very few people who could be described as "pure strain" tbh

The Brotherhood of Steel (BoS) is a techno-religious organization, with roots in the American military and government-sponsored scientific community from before the Great War. The Brotherhood is mostly composed of the descendants of those military officers, soldiers, and scientists, but aside from some outsiders among their ranks, the Brotherhood is as close to pure-strain humanity (prime normals) as you're going to get outside of a Vault or the Enclave.

Its a "probably", I think it depends on where exactly the line is drawn for "pure" (not even people today can be completly free of Radiation and small mutation is a normal part of the biological process, so the benchmark can't be 0 as noone would ever make the grade).

Undoubtedly there has been some exposure (the BOS don't use power armour when wastelanding all the time, and some decendants walked to lost hills without it plus eat the same food and drink the same water as outsiders), but they do spend a lot of their lives in a lower radiation environment than everyone else.

West Coast (pre-Fallout 1 and possibly fallout 1 time period) would be, since they were in a secured base and after that they were in the Bunker, so they would be like the Vault Dweller in FO1. By Fallout 2 its iffy, new recruits and all that yummy stuff. Midwestern would be comprised of mostly nonpures, since tribals were recruited. East Coast would be no for the majority, unless BoS have a large recruitment pool from the vaults.

When it comes to pure humans, then the Brotherhood of Steel must be divided into 3 categories....

The Brotherhood of Steel:
Lost Hills Bunker: Pure Strain Humans
Maxson's Bunker: Pure Strain Humans

The Brotherhood of Steel(Chicago/Midwest)
Officer Corps/Senior Technicians: Pure Strain Humans
Enlisted/Junior Technicians: Irradiated humans, mutants etc.....

Brotherhood of Steel East Coast:
Fort Independence: Pure Strain Humans

Brotherhood of Steel Lyons Outcasts:
Officer Corps/Senior Technicians: Pure Strain Humans
Enlisted/Junior Technicians: Irradiated humans, mutants etc.....

However, I think we need to add that the Enclave is unlikely to consider the BOS likely recruits - They are of course decended from traitors.

Enclave probably doesn't know, or doesn't care. BoS and Enclave have never been on friendly terms with each other due to the Enclave expanding into the WC BOS's territory so BoS views them as invaders and Enclave just views them as another group of wasteland pricks.
