Fallout 2 extreme noob question.

I came across the first locked door that the game has to offer, the second door in the temple of trials. How the hell do I open it? It may sound ridiculous, but I've searched the area and found nothing. *sigh* without a first person view, I'm always lost. Always.

Click skilldex (lower right), click lockpick, click door (or something like that). Did you read the manual? >_>

Alternatively, you can press 2 then click the door.

Do the above... or alternatively, click and hold over the door; you get a context menu where you can choose to examine, use an item, or use a skill. Use a skill, choose the lock pick skill.
Make a point of always reading anything that prints in the text box at the lower left of your screen.

The first locked door [I think] cannot be failed at; It always succeeds. The second locked door has no way to pick the lock... but there is a way to destroy the lock (found not too far from the door).

By the way... You should save your game before you talk to anyone in the temple (if your PC dies, you'll have to go through the whole thing again).

*Don't read this until you find something expensive.
Spoiler
You've seen the "grenade in the pants trick" of Fallout 3; be wary of the fact that you can do this to yourself in Fallout 2 if you are not careful. Think twice around explosives.

Yeah, I learned that about explosives right after planting the C4, wondering if it was actually supposed to be ON the door, picking it back up, and watching myself blow up.......... Now I only get killed by Geckos, so I'm doing better.

BTW: Where would I find good way for a low level character to get money, or a firearm somewhere in that first town, or in the Trappertown? I found that huge rat in the underground northern section of Trappertown, and I had to run away. I think I'll need a gun for that damn thing, or a lot of stimpacks or healing powder. But that brings me back to the money problem. At this point in FO3, I've got a decent armory, combat armor, and 25 or so stims. I see now why everyone thinks it was dumbed down. The FO2 wasteland is not nearly so forgiving.

There are some free firearms in the Klamath, look in every shelf/locker/desk/crate you see where no one can see you going through thier stuff. That is check empty buildings and rooms. There is also a free gun found just laying on the ground in that underground area; good luck with that one. Money will be tight for a while, there is a quest in Klamath whose reward is the Gecko Skinning perk. Gecko skins aren't worth a whole lot but early in the game it could be enough to keep you moderatley supplied. I do have one quasi-cheat that I use for almost evey character I play,

Thanks for the help, I'm off to re-scour Klamath. I killed all the rats in the underground with a spear and guerrilla tactics. I find it annoying that I've got somewhere around 54% chance to hit, and missing 75% of the time, but now that I can get some better gear things should improve. It's time to kick ass.

Trust me, it will be a while till you're able to kick some ass :P Also, you can make some quick buck by pickpocketing people in the Bathhouse.

The pipe rifle is alright but i usually manage to scavenge enough to afford a pistol and leather armour by the time i'm ready for the keeng rat without stealing or playing craps.

look at every book shelf and bar back room (try kicking the doors down!) you can even find a nice picture of elvis which always seems to sell well!

Hang on to your spear, those rats aren't worth 1-2 bullets each. keep kicking ass! :toughninja:

Yeah, Keeng rat's been dead for a while, but now I'm almost out of 10mm pistol ammo, and even though I gave Vic the radio to repair Mezker's with, there is no dialog option to free him so i need 1000 dollars. I can get 1000, but none of the shopkeeps have more than 5 to spend..........

There are several different ways of dealing with Metzger. Female characters can get him to knock the price for Vic down, You can join the slavers and make some money that way, you can talk to everyone else in town and make quite a few caps solving many of the other quests, or you can just kill him then Vic is free to go, or join you in your quest.

My personal favorite is to do all the other quests in town first, as there is one quest line that requires Metzger to be alive, and then kill him and his cronies. Now how is a low level player supposed to take on an entire slaver gang by themselves when they are low on ammo? Well doing the other quests will get you both XP and funds then I

Get about a dozen doses of Jet and use them on Metzger and his crew, wait for 30 minutes then attack. The down side of jet is that once it wears off your action points get severley reduced for a couple of hours, this is true for NPCs as well. You can clear out the whole building and they will be to Jet-Lagged to fight back.

It maybe considered cheating from a game mechanic perspective, but from a RolePlay perspective it is a technique I would really use.
