Giving the player a voice

Post » Thu Dec 23, 2010 2:23 pm

After reading about Dragon Shouts in the released details, I wondered, does the player finally have a voice??Well that's not a good idea is it??? It would take many voice actors to get all the dialogue. That voice most likely wouldn't be one you would have chosen for your own, thus decreasing the immersion.

But every platform has a user mic right? Windows has a voice recognition system, just say a few paragraphs into your mic and the system knows your voice.

Incorporate a similar system into the game and now, rather than just click your NPC conversation choices, you say them. Add what tone is appropriate. This would be great for immersion don't you think??

Also now with the dragon shout feature, you would stay in the moment during combat, focused on your enemy, without having to look for a key/button to activate it.

Thoughts???

I think the Dragon shouts would just be a yell of different tones. But adding some words to it would be nice.

Not to keen on the whole player voice though.

I agree, but other than this the player should remain silent.

This has been brought before... it would be awful and would never happen. It's not like your character is going to be fully voiced like Shepard in Mass Effect.

I think the shouts will be short and sweet similar to grunts when you get hurt in previous games. I prefer this actually, as I'd rather leave my character's voice to my own imagination.

Hopefully they'll just sound unearthly or something, like maybe a Dragon's voice ('cuz you know, Dragon Shouts). I'm quite content with imagining my voice and what exactly my character says.

This sounds like what I would like: the voice is not considered human, elvis and whatnot, but rather give an impreesion of the power they hold :obliviongate:

I don’t want PC voices (speech) either, but its not like you never hear them.

They shout and grunt when you get hurt already.

Voiceover will never happen for the main character in an elder scrolls game. The reason 20 different voiceovers for 10 characters, Male and Female. It would be counterproductive to have the Protagonist have a voice in an Elder Scrolls game. Now if we had something like Redguard where we have one Protagonist then that's a different story.

The player should not talk I think. But I could use more sounds like groaning, battlecries, maybe laughing in taverns or near high disposition NPCs...Or when a funny thing occurs I'd like to say but that'd require a laugh key I think XDDD
