Nuka Cola is a pretty awful Company!

Post » Fri Dec 24, 2010 5:33 pm

I`m one of those guys who actually spends time to read the notes on those old computers that somehow stay powered forever.... Some interesting stories you can find.

Was in the Nuka Cola factory and decided to read on the advertisemant campaign. I came across their research where they were testing their drinks on people. Loads of people suffered internal injuries, burns and were hospitalised while loads of others in one case, were all killed!

The company just sends the relatives Cheese and Fruit packages as compensation!

I don`t think I`d wanna be a Cola test subject in 2076 America!

p.s Yes, yes, I know it`s a kind of joke too, but I like to look at it in a realistic way while ingame.

Yes the Nuka Cola logs really paint an amazing picture of the company.

Not to mention the forman, Milo, who locked people away and starved them to death as punishment for taking a long lunch break.

In general companies in the game are viewed very negatively. But the Nuka Cola people are particularly nasty. Started a poll topic on worst in game companies a while ago. I voted for the Nuka Cola company as the worst. But Vault Tech won the poll as the worst. And after visiting some of their vaults I could see why.

Fallout is a disturbing, dark and sick world.

But Nuka Cola are bad for sending fruit baskets for dead and injured people, lol. Vault Tec are worse though. Vault tec are the most evil in the game.

Watching Americans deal with irony is like watching a budgie with a mirror. They just don't understand.

Actually, birds are pretty intelligent, especially parrots/parrokeets. My two African Greys took great interest in mirrors when they first saw their reflection, but now they totally ignore them.

Back on topic, I am obsessive about reading every computer screen, poster, book cover, note etc, in every game I play, as well as exploring every corner of a location. I must take a lot longer than the average player.
Glad to know I'm not alone!

We get the satire element with Nuka Cola.

We just enjoy the irony.

Ironic.

But irony is like an old man winning the lottery and dying the next day.

No that just svcks. Here's a helpful tool to use when trying to figure out if something is ironic, or poetic justice.
Poetic Justice would be the band Anthrax dieing from Anthrax. Irony is the diabetic who get's run over by a truck full of insulin. (Insulin helps diabetics to live, but in this case it's doing the opposite.).

The whole irony of the song is that none of the things she mentioned were actually ironic.

But anyway...

Yes, the Fallout series doesn't spare anything from its bleak comedy, and I, for one, love it. Evil corporations, patriots gone genocidal while humming old-world tunes...

One thing I have to say is that Nuka Cola must be pretty tasty stuff, if people are actually willing to drink it despite the fact that it irradiates you. Kind of like the old Japanese tradition of eating fugu.

The point in Nuka Cola is that this type of behavior is not fictional at all. Prior to several decades ago, for example, it was not uncommon for scientific research to use human subjects without their consent or even their awareness. This included government sponsored research and highly acclaimed institutions. Some of the most extreme cases of this practice are what led to the creation of ethics boards for research proposals. Companies are even worse because they are focused on profit at any cost rather than scientific inquiry. Or perhaps we could say they are interested in scientific inquiry only as it relates to increasing profits.

This has been portrayed in other stories, too, such as Robocop and Firestarter.

Beth's writing and portrayal of this type of practice is one of the high points of the game. They are reflecting the reality of 1950s mindset into an all-to-plausible future... and perhaps even the present, in some ways.
