do you think they should make van buren as fallout 4? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Van_Buren_%28Fallout_3%29 that link is for those who dont know what van buren is. and if so then do you think they should make it as a first person or a 3rd person overview like they were planning to?

Many of the characters and locations planned for Van Buren will be showing up in New Vegas so it would be impractical to try and remake it at this point since, to an extent, this is already happening. Perhaps some of content that hasn't been used so far will show up later (or serve as the inspiration for later material).

In terms of perspective, I have no problems with an isometric-esq camera although I'd want full 360 rotation. I do prefer first person but I'd be happy with either.

New Vegas is as close as we are going to get to Van Buren. Beth does not like to go back in time with their games. The time line has gone to far forward for a Van Buren to make sense. The storie of the Vault Dweller ended with FO2, VB aka FO3 will never be made.

I would like it if it was made but it's not going to happen, we have to move on. Just be thankful we are going to have New Vegas. I am hoping we will learn of the Chosen One in New Vegas. I am hoping it turns out we are related to the Chosen One in some way, direct descendant would be best :D.

son or grandson would work the age slider kind of makes that difficult... i think that bethesda will sell the rights to fallout to obsidian.. im hoping they get hit by hard economic times and have to sell either fallout or oblivion... and fallout is the step child to them so its gona go first... thank god..

Bethesda won't sell Fallout, and I would love Van Buren to be made in the isometric, pc-only original version, but it will never be made. Van Buren has been dissected by Fallout 3 and Fallout Van Buren and it would no longer make sense with the lore.

Nah... Maybe they should finish and have it as a free steam game or something. But as summer said most of the characters that were going to be in Van Buren are going to be in New Vegas. Plus I really didn't like the story and ideas for Van Buren... trains were too wild west theme and not really an advancement in human civlization. Now people have cars I think fit in better than having a train system in the fallout world. That's just me though.

There is no way Van Buren will ever be made like it was initially proposed, unfortunately. I'd like me a game from that perspective (top down camera with 360* rotation and turn based combat).

Yeah, I just don't see this happening.

At this point, any work that was already done on the game, tech-wise, is far enough out of date that you'd really have to start all over from scratch if you wanted to make a decent profit off it. (I mean, look at the New Vegas page and everyone who's upset about that game not looking any better than Fallout 3... ) You wouldn't be finishing Van Buren, you'd be making a whole new game at this point.

And besides, a lot of the plot ideas are making it's way into New Vegas, it seems - meaning Van Buren might actually feel kind of redundant if you were to play that later on down the road.

Would I play VB? Sure, absolutely. But it's not exactly keeping me awake at night, either...

no one would have to make a profit lol... a mod crew go's in completes the 10 percent of the game they need to and release it since all the copy rights are gona run out soon.

Bethesda don't want to go backward in timeline?
Why?

We live in a totally new video game era so I don't see it happening.

Hopefully they'll do DLC's of http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Dog_Town, http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Reservation, http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Nursery, http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Boulder_Dome and http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Burham_Springs, that way we could get more of Van Buren in New Vegas.
But sadly the real Van Buren won't ever see the light of day. :(

My understanding is that oft-quoted "10 percent" isn't necessarily all that accurate a measurement of the amount of actual work that would need to be done in order to finish the game.(I can't be bothered to go dig it up, but there was an interview with one of the ex-Black Isle guys that said not only would there be a good deal of work left to get the game "finished," that it's also not the sort of situation where a whole new team could just sit down and pick up where the previous one had "left off." (ie, it's not like you're building a brick wall, here - finishing a game, no matter it's condition, isn't the sort of thing where you can just "fill in the gaps.")

But disregarding all of that, it'd undeniably be quite an undertaking. I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of modders some day were able to get a hold of the source code and maybe even one day put out something that (while it would never be exactly what Black Isle had been planning on putting out) you could at least call "finished." I'd imagine that would be a difficult process - and a bunch of modders trying to work together on-line is a bit different than having an actual team all working for the same company. But it's conceivably doable. I'll grant that.

But that's also not your original question, which I had been responding to - which was:
do you think they should make van buren as fallout 4?

And no, I don't see any reason why they should. It's pretty much a given that Bethesda will be putting out their own "Fallout 4" at some point in the future. I don't see any reason to replace that (admittedly hypothetical) game with what's left of Van Buren. As much a fan as I am of turn-based gaming, I just don't see as how that would be a fair trade-off.

"Finishing" Van Buren, on it's own, isn't something I'd have a problem with. I'm probably rather ambiguous about the whole thing at this point (I used to be disappointed back in the day, but it's been time and more to come to terms with the reality.) But I wouldn't be against the idea of the game eventually coming out. "Should Van Buren get finished?" Sure, why not. "Should it be Fallout 4?" No, I don't see why that should be the case.

No. Visiting satelites with nukes is something that fallout can live without.
