Legion

this may be a bit old but I used to say that Fallout 3 should not be made into a movie like some games, a movie based on a game never turns out good. The thing was, I couldn't help but get exited when I first saw the trailer for Legion in theaters. the trailer starts out with a person wearing what seamed to be leather armour walking toward a sign that said Paradise Falls. little did I know that this was not Fallout 3 the Movie but some crappy flick about demons, Paradise Falls was a gas station. What are your views on Fallout 3 the movie? Bad idea or would you welcome it with open arms?

Bad idea. It's impossible to capture that universe right. A TV series set in the Fallout Universe, maybe. But not a movie.

I dunno, fallout 3 already has a decent story, so choosing which aspects of the game to include in any movie would need to be chosen carefully. Then there is the matter of production. After all you would need money to produce a movie such as this, and lots of it. then there's the matter of Direction, you wouldn't want some chump of a director that butchers everything they touch to direct this film...would you??? Actors/actresses that can go a long way as well, you need good acting.

Alot would need to go just right for something like this to really work, but I believe it could be done successfully, however unlikely with the direction Hollywood has taken in recent years. IMO they suffer from a complete lack of creativity/originality.

You'd lose the most essential aspect of the game, which is choice. The player writes his/her own story. That's the core of F3, and a movie simply could not capture it.

A parallel to that is the "Hitman" movie. It was centered around spectacular bullet-spraying gunfights that left dozens dead. The real brilliance of the "Hitman" games was that the goal was to achieve the "Silent Assassin" rating, where you kill the target (and ONLY the target) and are gone before anyone knows what happened. The gorefests in the movie were the exact opposite of the spirit of the game.

That's where people make their mistake. we are not talking about Fallout the game, but Fallout the movie, based on Fallout the game There would need to be certain aspects of the game altered somewhat in order for it to work a little better in a movie. That has been done time and time again when adapting books for a movie. There is no possible way to include every aspect of the game into a Fallout movie, which is why I said that it would be necessary to choose which parts to include and which parts should be omitted, or left for a sequel if successful enough.

You can still omit parts of the game from the movie and still get the point of it across. Also, there is nothing that says anywhere that a movie that is based on a game has to share that same name. Example: Post Apocalyptia: A Film based on the video game Fallout 3. Not the best example, but it gets the point across.

Of course the die hard fans of the game probably would find faults with it no matter what, just the same as the hard fans of the original fallout games find fault with Fallout 3. Same thing with the die hard fans of Morrowind finding fault with Oblivion, you just won't be able to please these people. IMO That isn't really the type of audience you really need to attract to the movie. Maybe, just maybe someone who watches the movie and hasn't played the game may say, hey maybe i will try that out, it looks like it might be good.

there have been some decent movies made from games. Resident Evil seems to be quite successful, Tomb Raider I think did well. there may be others I haven't heard about as well.

I think it would be great, but it couldn't take place around The Lone Wanderer. It would have to be a random Fallout person. Maybe a new character.

Tron maybe? It's been awhile, but I think the game may have been first.

Inb4 someone rags on the Postal movie. I thought it was funny.

I agree with Holy Assassin: A Fallout tv series could be good (think Jericho but with more seasons). Movie? Eh, not so much. There's so many ways that could go wrong. With our luck, they'd cast Justin Beiber as the Lone Wanderer.

Actually, as far as Tron goes, the video game was based on the movie (which was about video games, but still). Not the other way around.

Tomb Raider was indeed a good movie, but it's based on a far more linear game. Sandbox games, I think, are more problematic to convert because everyone thinks the plot should go a different way.

Couldn't help but laugh.

Anyways, I would have to think that pulling off a movie would be very very difficult. But it can be done. And if someone does end up doing right, it will become a very big hit, no doubt about it. Now a TV show, that's something I think has a very good shot of working out. I would say yes to either of them really. It would be nice to see some Fallout without someone in the background holding the controls.
