Naming Conventions in TES V

Post » Mon Jan 03, 2011 6:04 pm

When I see Nord names one word comes to my mind: Celtic. While playing Morrowind Im thinking mediteranean names as well as middle eastern. While playing Oblivion I think Roman. Mediteranean, that sort of thng. What I've heard about Daggerfell I'm thinking old English.

Same here, I've always pictured Morrowind as a swampy Afghanistan with an Iraqui (sp) taste

Iraqi, they supersede our petty spelling laws. ^_^

I have to say that with a bit more freedom in the next game, I am looking forward to the settlements that we get. I'm banking on some epic Nordic places.
Like, people yelling "I AM BEOWULF!" non-stop, kind of epic.

Merchant: That is not a deal I am willing to make.
Player: I AM IM-LEET
Merchant: Yes, yes I know. You've yelled that for hours. But I will not sell you my trousers for that flask off manure-water you just made.
Player: I will include this blood stained shirt. I am Im-Leet.

Lol, thanks
And yeah, due to the fact that they feed off of violence, I'd say it'll be a brutal country

On Topic-I think theres some maps on the UESP that shows the names of the major cities in all the provinces

Don't worry about how grotesque Arefu sounds, its from fallout 3, and some pretty grotesque things went down in arefu, let me tell yah...

I found Cyrodiil's location name to be incredibly generic, with robber glenn's cave and fort sutch and so on.

Morrowind was the exact opposite but still wasn't helpful. Punsabanit? Tukushapal? Zaintirari? It got me thinking...why the hell would someone name a cave anyways...if its gonna sound this ridiculous.

So all in all, these places do not have to have names, but they're given them anyways, and i'm thankful i'm not the one who has to end up naming them because if I did, they'd be called "the place where I ....."
