Anyone Having Trouble With The New Fose?

Post » Wed Jan 05, 2011 3:58 pm

So, I just started up FO3 again, since I reinstalled my PC and upgraded it.

First, I deleted ALL my mods. Reinstalled Fallout 3. Got the DLCs installed again, and my game still crashed. I deleted DLCs, thinking that might be a problem...but nope.

Instead, I deleted everything related to FOSE in the fallout folder. Game doesn't crash anymore, but I have 1.7 (since I bought all the DLCs) and can't find an older version of FOSE.

When I try to start a new game, it gets to the baby scene...and three possibilities happen when FOSE is installed. One, my game completely locks up before I choose what my character looks like, or most often it locks up seconds after I finish customizing my character, or very rarely (only once), it gets to the dad scene where you crawl to your dad...but completely locks up.

This is definitely FOSE, because the only things I currently have installed are: DLCs (which I know aren't the problem now), Mod Manager and FOSE. I have NO mods at all, on a clean save (not a single old file from any of my mods was left behind when I cleaned everything out). Game locks up when FOSE is in the folder, game runs perfectly when FOSE is deleted out of the folder.

Anyone else having problems with the latest version of FOSE? And anywhere I can get an older one that supports 1.7 patch?

This is the FOSE file I used by the way: http://fose.silverlock.org/download/fose_v1_2_beta2.7z

thanks :)

(edit)

And to clarify, I tried playing without any DLCs (completely cleared them out, plus the .bsa files), and it still crashed...so its definitely not them

I got it working I think. It crashed without FOSE too, but not as often. Or it was just a coincidence...

I added this to the .ini

bUseThreadedAI=1
iNumHWThreads=2

no idea what those two lines do...but I added them, and out of 5 tests of starting as a baby...I didn't crash once. Usually I crashed every time or every other time. I'll keep testing it out though

(edit)

To confirm, adding those two lines fixed my client from freezing. Anyone know what they do?

Did you forget to move your dlc files? It sounds like you are using the down loadable versions yes?

Grab fomm while your at it and move all your dlc stuff to your data folder. Do all those normal steps before you progress with modding. Its a pain in the ass I understand but do it right to start and you won;t have problems =)

I got it fixed by adding those two lines (in my second post)...no more crashes :)

That's the quad-core fix. It limits a multi-core processor to running on only two cores.

yep. This is a "Vanilla" problem and has nothing to do with FOSE. I had similar problems and this was the key to it.
It occurs only in indoor spaces, afaik, and its worse in smaller rooms, try the FWE alterante start for a room with under 5 seconds crash time ;)
The two lines tell the game to definitely use multi cores (first line) and to use only two of them (second line). As far as i tested (very briefly), "1", "2" and "3" work fine, using "4" crashes. Those two lines should have been there from the start for multi core processors, imo.
