TES V Theme

Post » Wed Jan 05, 2011 5:14 pm

So guys, as you know the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWuNf4gxwuM&feature=related theme and the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3EOibiVzq4 theme follow the same tune. Do you guys think that they should make a new song, or make another version of this one? If you think they should make another version, how do you think it should sound?

If it takes place in Skyrim, it should sound bold, but foreboding, as would fit a cold tundra. In this case, I would point to the music http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOAaRtbZWpo used. It has great build up and excellent strength in its later half, although it may be a bit too 'epic' for TES, although I have always loved Warcraft's music.

For some reason I'm thinking this should be the TES5 theme:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XLNl_vpbNQ
Parts 0.00-0.30 and 9:29-9.59 mainly, there's some good stuff in the middle also, but less soundtrackish imo.
Would fit Skyrim perfectly... of course needs alot of remixing :)
But it would be sweet.

Edit:
And something like this for the peaceful strolls in a summer forest:

Great flute. Main theme needs to be more powerful of course, but this kind of stuff needs to be in too, especially with regional/seasonal playlists. Or, maybe the towns/castles have actual musicians doing that stuff now and then. You could keep the vocals in that case, and the music can be merry and fast. Kinda like the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jM8EaL1Zm6w :)

That sounds really good, but would anyone else like some ol 12th century party music in there? I think I'd like it because when I think of Skyrim, I think of Nords, and when I think of nords, well, some good ol mead anyone?!

It seems an evidence to me that they HAVE to keep the same theme. A different version for sure, that could fit the new place. But this theme is just totally associated to The Elder Scrolls..

What made Oblivion's theme good was the fact that, when you first hear it, you're surprised to realize it's just the Morrowind melody in maestoso.

By discussing the theme here, we've ruined the surprise. So, the TESV theme should have a new melody.

It seems to me that if the setting is in Skyrim, the theme should definitely have singing in it, even if there aren't actual words. Voice and breath are a pretty big part of Nord culture, and so it would be fitting to have singers. The melody from the previous two TES games should be kept, but I'm having a hard time imagining how one could make an epic song worthy of Skyrim without sounding too similar to Oblivion's theme.

Maybe something like Braveheart theme song? It's not to lofty and have more adventure style than epic-battle-super-slasher-hero-style :)

More drums! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAeL6o4LWzM (without the middle calm bit). Though this is just my preference, Nextmastermind has a very good point, whether or not it fits matters way more than what it sounds like out of context.

It shouldn't be the MAIN tune in the theme (it wasn't in Oblivion, really. It was just one line of notes, and the rest was all different), but I think it should show up.

Let's call in a music junkie like me! The TES V theme needs to have a lot of bass drum and timpani drums for sure. It is Skyrim after all... (as far as we know). The main theme should be incredibly powerful in the beginning, calming down to a serene bit of music in the middle. It should end with a bang for sure so that it can just play over and over again.

Skyrim is Nordic, and everything I think of is Vikings, Vikings, Vikings.

I tried listening to some Nordic folk music, and it doesn't sound anything like what I would expect the music of Skyrim to be. A lot of flutes and fiddles, not enough epicness. I imagine the music direction could take a lot of clues from Native American music (that is, my very limited understanding of Native American music -- I'm guessing similar to the music of the peoples of the Pacific Northwest).

Considering that said "Theme for the Elder Scrolls" was only created in Morrowind, the third game if we only count the main series, and the Oblivion theme doesn't even sound that similar (While some elements certainly resemble it, I still wouldn't think of it as being meant as a remix of the same song if people didn't say it was.) I don't think there's any need to keep it. Usually a series continues to reuse the same theme song in various different works if the song was used from the start and is so distictive that people associate it with that series. I'd be perfectly fine if Bethesda decided to use a different tune for the next game, as long as it fits with the setting and tone of the game, which could, depending on what that will be, be reason enough to change it if the familiar tune can't be adapted to fit the new game. And that's really what a theme song should be above all else, aside from sounding good, it should somehow be invoke the theme and feel of whatever work it's being used in, so I guess whatever style should be used depends on the setting for the next game.

But if it is indeed in Skyrim, then something epic sounds appropriate.

I did like that, but I didn't get a Skyrim feel from it. I got an 'on the seas' type of feel.

Rise of an Emperor by Scott Buckley.

That was. Awesome.

Just my opinion, I think Bethesda should mix it up a bit. Like this :P

I'm thinkin it'll be the same one with a twist. Like the Doctor Who theme tune. Same tune year in, year out done slightly differently. It would be fun though if there was some bawdy lyrics sung over it like Dennis Leary's spoof of Irish songs. 'We fight and we drink and we fight and we die! We fight and we drink and we fight and we die! O'Hanrahan's dead! O'Hanrahan's dead!!'

If it's set in Skyrim, I won't listen to any of the music unless the main theme has lots and lots of delicious percussion. BOM BOM BOM BOM BOM
