I like to roleplay as a Redguard ("The most naturally talented warriors in Tamriel") specialising in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hf4IoxEUmHM. The link leads to a video which serves as an excellent example of what I mean.
Gear/Style:
- A Pilum/Javelin/throwing spear for a short but powerful ranged attack before closing in to melee
- Longsword in the right hand, light if possible - the long reach of this is crucial to stay as far away form the enemy as possible, whilst the lightness means your attacks can be quick and sharp, a deadly mixture of short slash and pointed thrust (as opposed to clumsy wide slashes and a blow-after-blow-till-he's-down form of combat)
- Shield in the left hand - it's blocking functionality is absolutely key for melee combat
- Light armour - necessary to fight quickly and ably, not being clunked down by heavy armour. You don't need to wear thick metal if you're quick enough to avoid getting hit
- Evasive manuevaring and quickness of foot - hopefully the new combat mechanics will give me dodging abilities!
- Complementary basic offensive magic - although most Redguards see magic as for the 'weak or wicked', my PC is cosmopolitan and intelligent enough to appreciate the practical applications of a good fireball in combat :chaos:
This my favourite form of combat, more elegant and based on skill than when clad in heavy armour (those fights usually become wars of attrition and mere endurance, i.e. who can take the most punishment in a metal suit before going down. A good anology would be fencing compared to boxing. Ugh :shakehead: )
