Roleplaying Character

Post » Sat Jan 08, 2011 11:35 am

I plan on making a roleplaying character that isn't exactly abnormal, but i'm kind of having trouble deciding how to make him. I plan to have him a normal citizen, not poor or rich, that is fascinated by magic and wants to learn how to use it. He likes nature and never kills animals. He carries a dagger as a last resort weapon against a possible bandit or daedra attacking him. He carries regular clothes, and some robes incase of rain, and keeps a spare torch on him at all times that he is outside of the city walls, which he usually is. And he lives at Cheydinhal, but hopes to relocate to a home out in the forrest, preferably either a small vilage or a house away from any type of society. Now, this is where the question roll in.

What race should he be: Dark Elf

What birthsign should he be: The Mage

What should he do for a living: Cartographer

Should he eventually acheive the ability to use the slightest form of magic: Yes

Should he EVER go to the Shivering Isles: Yes, however, he will NOT go insane, he'll study the unique plant and animal life however...because he's a treehugger or something.....

Should he ever get into the Mages Guild: Yes

Should anything abnormal happen in his life: No

Should he ever get his house (Normal or Abnormal) outside of a city away from civilization: Yes

Any mods you'd reccomend: Forest Friends Amulet, Actors In Charge, Actors in Madness

Even though these are stupid questions I could easily answer myself, I just want some people's opinion on his backstory and how he should be made.

Sounds like a Breton to me. Mage sign, all magic skills. Occupation? Daedric Archaeologist.

I'd agree with most of that, however, why a Daedric Archaeologist? If he loves nature, he wouldn't find himself fascinated with some demons in a desolate planet who's only intention is to burn things, commit genocide, and take over the world.

Since you asked about mods, I will shamelessly promote one of mine. The http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=33463 adds you to the same faction as the animal predators of the forest, so they will not attack you. It does not work against magical creatures like trolls, imps, will-o-the-wisps, etc... though. It also adds +20 magicka as well, because hey, who can't use that?

For your dagger, I suggest The Dagger of Depletion http://www.uesp.net/maps/obmap/obmap.shtml?centeron=Dagger+of+Depletion. It is always there, so it is a way to get a silver dagger at the start of the game, before they start turning up in loot or shops. I use it for most of my mages to block with, because I like how the silver daggers look, and it is a way to get one at the start of the game.

I would normally say go for either a Breton or Altmer for a mage character, and choose either mage, atronach, or apprentice for birthsign since those races/signs give you more magicka. However, if you want a roleplaying challenge, and want to feel more like an ordinary Gaius Cyrodiilicus, try one of the other races. There are a lot of Dark Elves in Cheydihnal, so maybe one of those? Or go with an Imperial, they are as ordinary as you can get in Cyrodiil. For the brithsign, maybe pick one at random? Use your own birthday, and see what brithsign that would give you in the game. Here's a list I made of which IRL months correspond to which ES months, and what sign each is:

Morning Star January The RitualSun's Dawn February The LoverFirst Seed March The LordRain's Hand April The MageSecond Seed May The ShadowMidyear June The SteedSun's Height July The ApprenticeLast Seed August The WarriorHearthfire September The LadyFrostfall October The TowerSun's Dusk November The AtronachEvening Star December The Thief

I like to provide a history or background for my characters, but never presume to give them a 'futureground' or dictate what they will do.

Background stuff: Breton with mage birthsign.

Given the interests you outline, he might consider enrolling in the Cheydinahal chapter of the mages guild, and becoming a cartographer - interested in having the most complete map in Cyrodiil. During the course of his travels and vistiting other MG chapters, he may develop an interest in studying at the Arcane University.

Regarding Shivering Isles, here's what I would do. Some time when he's at Bravil, ask him to stare out at that mysterious island for a bit. Then ask him if he wants to investigate it or not.

As far a a place live, it sounds like he might enjoy living out of his backpack, with a portable campsite mod.

I find the best roleplay tip is to listen very carefully to your character from the moment you meet them in the tutorial, and let them call the shots. After all, it is their pixelated butt on the line. :)

Sounds almost like a Druid, which was a high status priest of the ancient Celtic people. They were highly intune with nature and rumored to have magical powers. It was alos a D&D Class in the original game. I would go with Breton, but not sure if from your description if the character is going to have magic majors or just learn them after leaving a non magical upbringing or job. Actual Druids were sort of groomed to the role and would have had serious magic major skills, and Blade. Historical Druids like the Celtic Warrior and Noble classes were allowed to carry swords, unlike peasants, tradesmen and the like who were not even allowed to have a sword.

I have just made my first RP character. I think the best RP style would be a hunter alchemist. it gives lots of things to do. such as hunting and looking everywhere in the wilderness for plants etc.
Name: just named him Jack after myself.
Race: Wood Elf
Birthsign: The thief (marksman and athletics boost, luck is nice to have aswell)
Class Custom Hunter
Spec: Stealth
Attributes. Agility / speed
Skills: Acrobatics, Alchemy, Athletics, Marksman, Sneak, Speechcraft, Light armour

My character is obsessed with wildlife and wants to live in the wilderness. he wants to be a master of herbs and alchemy, he is also one with a bow. and hunts his own food.

what do you think? :)

It looks like fun. Your character will have to learn some melee skills (like blade or blunt) or else use either destruction or restoration magic, to deal with those enemies who get close. But those skills can be trained up from Minor. You'll have to do a lot of running away in the early levels, and your speed will help with that, as will your ability to jump up onto rocks and ledges to get out of their reach.

Poison will be your best friend. :)

You can use a bow at point blank range. I have played several characters who use no other weapons, or magic to attack with. It has a slow rate of attack compared to melee weapons, but it works just fine.

Nice list. The only flaw to that is that there's thirteen signs. The serpent is left out.

Only some Daedra are "bad"... Even then, they still serve a purpose. Mehrunes Dagon for example, he may be one of the antagonist of ES IV, but hes also in charge of destroying things so new ones can take their place.

Someone who loves the outdoors and magic would find great joy tracking through Cyrodiil to find a lost shrine or rare artifact. I mean Daedra are natural...in their realm.

I also see him as a little eccentric and a bit of a hermit. He wouldn't like Hircine though.

I mean you could go farrmer, druid, tree hugging hippi etc. but I find this to be more novel and a lot of fun.

If I remember correctly, The Serpent doesn't have a corresponding month, so someone with The Serpent Birthsign could be born in any season.

Oh, okay. I didn't know that. Thanks for that information. As I said, that list is nice. :)
