Well I recently installed Fallout 3 and the installation went fine, but whenever I try to start a new game it consistently crashes. I've tried everything from downloading a saved game from the internet and loading it , turning off sound, turning off visual themes, turning down graphics settings, installing patches, and changing lines in the .ini file. This is really annoying me, I can't even start up the game. I think it might be something to do with my specs but I can run Oblivion fine (and I think they use the same engine) and all the Total War games too. Can anyone help? Should I just buy this for my console instead...?

This would be the problem, the game doesnt like to run on any of the Intel video chipsets, they are not powerful enough. They lack the shader models to run the game properly. Oblivion is an older game with less strict requirements.

So I can't run the game? Is there any way around this?

Since its a laptop, you are unable to upgrade the GPU. The only way to get the game to run correctly is to buy a new PC.

Or there is a modified .dll file floating around which forces the game to run on that chipset.......many people (including myself) do not recommend using it, since it may cause damage to the hardware itself or a borked operating system. (And it would be out of warranty since its an unauthorized fix)

Gah this is why I like staying with console games.... I can't afford a new PC, could you possibly give me the name of the .dll so I can do research on it?

It is forcing the computer to run an application which it wasnt designed for. It may cause overheating on the video chipset or instability within the OS...... .dll files can be dangerous things. (Note that many people have successfully used this one, but its best to know what *could* happen)

Umm i tried this .dll and i also have a Intel HD Graphics although alienware says i have a Nvidia GeForce GT 335M but anyway it crashes during the time you choose your name and when you are an infant any help?

Sounds like you have a dual card laptop (Or you were ripped off) Forget the DLL and instead make sure the drivers for the dual card systemm are fully up to date.

There's been a lot of trouble with some of the laptops using that Geforce, so I warn anyone considering it about the difficulties. The BIOSs seem particularly stupid, so far.

Do you know where i can get the update software for nvidia? System properties shows only Intel HD graphics and nvidia control panel shows both Intel AND GeForce, fo3 shows only Intel HD tho :/
