Charging system/soul gems

Post » Fri Jan 14, 2011 12:43 am

On of the biggest annoyances we all noticed in oblivion was the constant need of recharging your magic weapons. THINGS MUST CHANGE!!!!! i believe your close range weapons such as maces, axes, swords and daggers, should have a much higher charge level. Think of it, you transferred the energy of a minator into your sword! i think having only 60 swings of your sword before you must recharge is a joke!
Hopefully the getting rid of the Myscism class of magic results in the end of this highly inefficient way of doing it.

But if worst comes to worst and you do need to continue to search for varla stones, spend a fortune on a mage, or running around the country side looking for powerful soul possessing creatures, i think souls should be far more powerful, full black soul gems should have far more charge than any other creature.
By doing this we could make far more exciting weapon and armour enchantments. it could add a whole new realm of creativity and excitement into this already phenomenal gaming series.

I always hated the idea of "recharging" enchanted items. As if they ran on batteries or something. Forget the whole recharging thing. If something does an extra x amount of fire damage just let it keep doing it. Honestly I don't care what they do but the word "recharge" needs to be banned from the TES universe forever. Call it "empower" or something if you have to keep it.

Yeah, I'd like to get away from that system. Maybe if we didn't need the soulgems for everything, you could put the soul energy straight into an item after killing something. That would rock.

I'm definitely up for that. Permanent enchantments that don't need recharging, and temporary enchantments where you apply the soulpower to the item for a limited number of uses.

Like have different souls provide different effects? That would be kind of cool.

Back to Morrowinds system.

Things recharge slowly over time on their own, and you can recharge them yourself using a soulgem, should you so desire.

I hope they just remove the recharge system. I really can't think of anything it adds to the game.

While I do not claim to know the solution, I do agree that it was a problem.

If they do have charge, it should probably replenish over the course of a few seconds. They might be better off replacing charge with procs, with better trigger rates being a function of more powerful enchantments (or even of higher Enchanting skill).

I like having to recharge it. Well not like, but it fits with the lore of the series' magick.

I think when enchanting you should have the option of adding a recharge ability to the spells. The stronger the recharge, the more room the ability would take up on the enchantment, reducing the potency of the damage or status effect you are enchanting the weapon with. This would allow magic users who are able to trap souls to avoid the recharge spell effect entirely, allowing them to use more powerful enchantments, without leaving stealth or combat focused characters high and dry when it came to using enchanted gear.
