Couple of questions

Post » Sat Jan 15, 2011 2:41 am

Hello everyone,

For the first time, I have found a magic weapon that I would like to use. I have a couple of concerns, though: keeping it charged and keeping it repaired (since I don't have the skill to repair magic weapons). How big a deal is it to keep up on the repairs and recharges? Do all the citys have people that can do either, and what is the expense?

Also, is it safe to leave items in a chest in one of the guilds? On the quest I'm on now, I'm getting tons of armor to sell, but it's really heavy so I have to make a bunch of trips. Once I have the area cleaned out, would it be save to put all my stuff in a chest at a guild, and come back so I can carry more of my loot back?

You can repair it in every city, dosnt cost much. but to recharge it is a different story. so start collecting soul gems

Many chest respawn after 3 days. If you do not know which one its better to leave it on a table or something like that. NPCs do not steal

I've got a bunch of soul gems, but not a lot of them are charged. Guess I need to read up on re-charging weapons. For some reason I was thinking there were people in the magic guilds that can do that.

This is, but it cost a bunch of gold

The way to do it yourself is:
1. a soul trap spell (mysticism)
2. an empty soul gem

(Humans needs a black soul gem)

I dont want to say more in the general forum...

Don't use the chests in guilds, as they will respawn and you'll lose all your stuff.

Several safe locations:

The "open-top" food sacks you find in various places do not respawn once you take what's in them, so they're safe storage.

There's a hollow tree stump in the Market District, behind Rindir's Staffs, which is safe.

The clams in the lake are also safe storage. They don't respawn. Just don't forget which one you used!

I don't use enchanted weapons until I learn how to repair and recharge them myself. That saves tons of gold. Needless to say, I put quite the early effort into improving my repair skill, learning how to trap souls and earning Azura's Star.

The containers in your guild halls are generally not safe. Look around for open top grain sacks and lecturns. Both these types of containers are commonly found in guild halls and they are always safe.

Where can I find more info on this? I looked at the Oblivion Wiki, and it just said that it COULD be done, but not how.

Get yourself some empty soul gems (petty will do for starters) and learn the Soul Trap spell (somebody sells it in every mages guild hall, I think.)

Go find a mud crab, and cast the spell on him. Then kill him with your favorite weapon, within the duration of the spell. You'll get a message that you trapped a soul.

Petty souls will recharge an enchanted weapon 150 points. Bigger souls yield a higher recharge value.

I've already got some charged soul gems in my possession. Or have those already been used on the weapon? Guess I'll have to check.

At any rate, I do have a mess of gems and a soul trap spell (I just need to get in the habit of remembering to cast the trap spell when I'm about to kill someone or something). Also, once a gem is used, can new soul be added and it used again?

I'm getting the sense that it might be a good idea to carry two swords...the one I have been using and the magic one for tough spots. I've GOT to get to the point where I can enchant stuff so I can put a feather spell on my armor (which would make IT magic and me unable to fix it).

I created a mod just for the purpose of storing items that I may or may not want to sell later. The mod is called "Laesea's House" and is available on the Nexus. If you don't want to chance storing items anywhere, just make trips to merchants instead of storage facilities...sell...return....rinse and repeat.

I really do not know why, but apparently I am the only one satisfied with Jauffre's storage chest in the Priory.

Are people not using it because it takes an 'inconvenient' pit-stop to undload stuff or are they unaware? Or does it do something weird after, say, 100 hours of gaming and wow-loads of items?

No, I use it all the time. For me, there's always been something kind of "homey" about that particular chest. I like the Priory and the whole area around the Priory anyway, so I like being in the area to begin with. I think I also feel a little more connected to that particular chest because I see Jauffre get up out of his chair and open it for me. ;)

Whether my characters use it or not depends on whether they've done the task that Jauffre asked. Some of my characters don't know the chest exists, because they have never been there. Others may have been there once, but have no reason to return to the Priory. One might not want to return and face the Grandmaster's wrath, if one had not done as he asked!

My present character is likely to make the acquaintance of Martin only after she is Archmage of the Mages Guild, the way things are going. If then...

Several of my past characters have preferred to maintain their central "storage" in the Imperial City, since it is central to Cyrodiil. Such characters usually end up buying the little house there.

My suggestion about clams relates to "early game storage." There are a couple of clams only a few steps from where the player emerges from the Tutorial dungeon; your first "safe storage" is right there.

Since I have no idea what this is, I'm assuming either this is something that I haven't come across yet, or I've forgotten.

What I'm looking for is a place within any city where I can store stuff when I'm doing quests related to that city.

Recharging and Repairinf can get really expensive. However Mysticism to 25 is pretty fast and allows you to cast soul traps for recharge. Repairing to 50 takes a little longer, but pick up enemy equipment and repair it that will help.

Also, is it safe to leave items in a chest in one of the guilds? On the quest I'm on now, I'm getting tons of armor to sell, but it's really heavy so I have to make a bunch of trips. Better to buy a house or to do Zero Visibility (Wiki it) and use that chest.

Yeah, but I was looking for some place that was consitant for each of the cities so that if I'm working on a quest in a given city I'd have a place to go store stuff nearby.

Join the Fighters Guild or the Mages Guild and use their guild halls. Most containers therein are NOT safe, but look for open top grain sacks or lecturns - those are two types of containers that are always safe. I know every Mages Guild hall has such safe containers. I suspect every Fighters Guild hall does also.
