Mr. House's Thoughts

Howard Hughes is a fascination of mine, and when I first heard a character influenced by Hughes was going to be in Fallout New Vegas, I was equally fascinated in learning about them. Mr. House was my favorite character in New Vegas by far, (genius casting of Rene Auberjonois) and as I was sitting here, decidedly not sleeping, I felt like writing something from the perspective of the man of which there is only a .000112% of a chance that someone else could lead humanity to as high a quality of living. This has spoilers obviously, and I threw probably a bit more of Hughes into it than was really necessary, but oh well. Please, comment, criticize, let me know how in character it sounds, so on so forth.

It is a rare thing indeed for this world to surprise me. I founded one of the most profitable companies on Earth when I was 22, only later to lead that company to be one half of the most successful partnership in the long history of American industry. I was able to pin point the escalation of the Great War to nuclear bombs to within mere days. I was able to rekindle the spirit of the single most unique city in the world after the almost rest of the world and its inhabitants were destroyed. Yet, I, President, CEO, and sole proprietor of the New Vegas strip, was surprised by the betrayal of one man.

Benny was always ambitious, the fact he is targeting my position is no surprise, but rather, where did he get so much information on my chip? Of course, the fact he was able to figure so much out without me noticing is a testament to my choice, Benny would have certainly made an excellent protegee, if only I had started grooming him sooner. The courier carrying the key to this city's, no, humanity's future was ambushed last night by the only tribal to actually impress me. Yet, I have found myself surprised again, for the information packet from Victor informs me that this courier survived being shot in the head twice and buried. The odds of that are less than 7%, perhaps this courier would be a suitable test subject for longevity technology, but that is not what I have planned for the moment.

Benny has my platinum chip, I will have it back.

I almost sent my Securitrons to take it back the moment he returned to the Strip, economic repercussions would be severe for the Tops...for a time. However, this courier leaves me an interesting alternative, surely revenge, or at least answers will be on their mind. With the right incentive, perhaps I will be able to have the courier hand deliver my chip after all, and with it, I can finally work to bring humanity out of this atomic dark age. I like to think of Vegas in terms of a well-dressed man in a dinner jacket and a beautifully jeweled and furred female getting out of an expensive car, their very presence inspires greed first, those who do not wish to emulate, only take, such as the NCR and Ceaser across the river. Resentment follows as well, seen through the so called “Follower's of the Apocalypse” outside my gates. They're goals of education are outweighed by their insurmountable naivete. Finally, when people accept that they want what those above them have, that they don't want to have to dream their important, they will emulate to achieve the same success.

Vegas shall inspire the rest of humanity to strive for technological highs once more with my guidance...

...once I have my chip.
