Could the next Fallout be made on the id Tech 5 engine?

Post » Sun Jan 23, 2011 11:04 pm

It just occurred to me that this could be a real possibility, considering id Software and Bethesda are part of the same company (ZeniMax). I wonder what this engine could do and if it would be the one they use to make the next Fallout (I'm almost sure they're done with GameByro)

Nope. Todd Howard said they wont be using Id Tech 5 for their games because it isn't good at making the kinds of games with huge worlds that Bethesda makes.

Would you happen to have a link to that?

I believe that's the right link. Next Fallout will use Bethesda's engine. I wouldn't rule out the possibility that ID has helped them work out some of their engine bugs. But 99% is probably BethesdaGS.

As the others have said it's confirmed that Bethesda's next game won't use id tech 5 and I think it's likely the game they currently have in pre-production will stick to that engine as well. We certainly don't know what games these will be but TES V and FO4 are good guesses.

Speaking more generally it wouldn't surprise me to see Bethesda adopt id's engines some time in the future but only if they can manage what Bethesda needs in terms of large open worlds.

Or if Bethesda decides to change their policy in some titles and, for example, use a node system (if too vast and open can't be supported).

Not counting on it, though, but I think it would be refreshing for them as much as to the audience, if they slipped a bit from their norm with certain franchises so that not each of them would offer the same thing with just different wrappings.

hopefully for the Engine they are making they should have fixed the ''Texture and Meshes'' bug . hated it in Fo3 when you could shot at an open hole in the wall and the bullet hits the invisible part of the wall. and the V.A.T.S. bug when you shot at an enemy, he manages to run behind a wall and the player waste's ammo by shoting bullets into the wall and you can't cancel the attack.
